My name is Emory Ortwein and I am currently a junior at SLP. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but moved up to Minnesota this summer for soccer. I have 3 siblings, two older brothers and a younger sister. Most of my friends are back in Wisconsin, but I have been thankful enough to make new friends while up here. One of, if not the most important thing, in my life is my faith. I am Catholic, and have been my whole life and LOVE it. My faith has helped me so much in my life and is the biggest part of what makes me, me. I enjoy playing and listening to music, and love to sit down and play the piano or guitar.

Summer

One thing I did summer was go on a trip in the Grand Canyon. The went on this trip with my family, and the trip lasted 8 days. Through the trip, we were white water rafting through the canyon. This summer I also spent a lot of time training and playing soccer with my friends. I also got to watch a professional soccer game between Chealsea and Celtic, which was a really cool experience. Lastly, I spent a lot of time with friends and family before I moved up to Minnesota because it would be while until I would see them again, so I wanted to soak up every second with them.

One thing going well

One thing going really well in my life is soccer. This summer I uprooted my entire life to move to Minnesota for soccer which was a really big change. While it was a big change, it could not be going any better, and I am really happy I made the change. I have been playing really well, and have made lots of new friends which has been amazing. Also, I am learning real life skills at a very young age, which is super beneficial for later in life. One thing I always ask myself is, is this even real? Due to the amount of independence and responsibility I have while doing this, I always forget that I am only 16, and that I am still in high school. Lastly, the transition away from family has not been very hard on me, which is great because it has allowed me to focus on soccer and chase my dream.

One thing I love to do is listen and play to music. One song I both love to listen to AND play on the guitar is the song I Remember Everything by Zach Bryan. It’s a pretty emotional song, but it is one that is near and dear to my heart. I especially like to play it on the guitar because it is somewhat simple to play, and it really fun to sing a long to.

The reason I chose the Milwaukee skyline for my background is because I was born and raised in Milwaukee. I think it is very important that you never forget your roots and where you came from, which is especially important now that I have moved away from Milwaukee. Milwaukee will always be part of who I am, and it is the place that made me into the person I am today. I have a lot of pride for the city, so I wanted to show it off and show that pride by making it my background.

I used a rhetorical question in my thing going well post when I said that I ask myself sometimes if this is all even real.
