Special ed students need a daily reward. I say we go old school with tickets- they are tangible and offer students responsibility on how to keep and store their tickets.

This year rewarding points took a lot of time. If you waited until wave 2, go backing and thinking about each class and what happened, sometimes you just gave everyone points because it was too much to nit pick behaviors.

regardless of whether paper or digital, I feel like kids will buy in more to a program when they have a say in what they’re working for. Letting them suggest prizes may help with motivation.

There would be more interest in the points if the rewards were more frequent. Kids lost buy-in because the rewards were not frequent.

Whatever system is chosen needs to be publicized from day one of school.
Needs to be easy for teachers to manage. Digital would most likely be easiest in this sense.
The value of the digital platform needs to be considered.
Pro for Live School is that we are now familiar with it.

If we could use what we have (LiveSchool) to find a way to more efficiently give rewards that might work. A way to cash in their points to access rewards more regularly, more motivating with options.

Tickets may open things up to more problems: stolen, ripped, left on floors, potential to be open to mockery. The digital method gives more control to teachers. But more frequent rewards could be more motivating.

Tickets would lose value if the tickets are lost but the reward is earned anyway.

I think kids need opportunities for more frequent rewards so they can have frequent reminders of the link between good behavior and rewards. I think this will also help to legitimize the PBIS process in the eyes of our kids.

The rewards themselves need to change. Teachers should take a survey on what students would like to earn so that it could be more encouraging . Students should also be able to cash in their points one a week. Every friday?

At my previous middle school, I was on the PBIS committee and we used tickets. I liked it and it was not too much to manage - it was not done daily but monthly (I think). The tickets themselves were entered to win prizes, and then the tickets were put onto a big wall to display.

I think tickets would give kids something tangible to remind them they can be rewarded for. More frequent rewards and student input would help
