         <description><![CDATA[<p>PhilWeb, which operates an internet cafe dedicated to casino games across the Philippines, reported a rise in net profit in the three months to Sept. 30, helped by cost cuts and revenue growth.</p><p><br/></p><p>The company posted a year-over-year increase in total revenue of 418.2 million PHP ($9.3 million) in the third quarter. Total bets for the third quarter of 2014 were up 4% year-over-year to 102.6 billion PHP.</p><p><br/></p><p>Net income for the first nine months of 2014 lagged last year's results. PhilWeb reported net income of 645.4 million PHP in the January-September period, down 10.6% from a year earlier.</p><p><br/></p><p>"However, net income declined mainly due to equity gains recorded as of the third quarter of last year, as well as other gains from interest expenses and income tax expenses recognized in 2014," the company said.</p><p><br/></p><p>It also operates operations in East Timor, Cambodia and Indonesia through its PhilWeb Asia-Pacific subsidiary. </p><p>Operations at the Guam Sweep Center on the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam remain closed due to changes to gaming legislation, the parent company said.
