More precisely, your research must address all of the following categories: Historical Background: Where did the Puritans originally come from? Why did they leave their home? Why were they called Puritans? How and when did they arrive at the New World (i.e. America)? What was life like for them when they arrived to the New World? What was their ultimate purpose in starting over in the New World? Beliefs and Values: What was important to the Puritans? What were their expectations when it came to how people should live their lives? Important People: Name at least 3 important and memorable Puritans? What did they do and why were they considered important? Important Events: The infamous Salem Witch Trials occured during this time period. What was the purpose behind these trials? How and why did these trials even begin? Important Literary Works: What sort of writings came out of this period (e.g. novels, plays, letters, essays, poems, etc.)? Identify at least 3 important literary works from this period and provide a brief summary of each. For Example, it was forbidden for women to become writers. They also banned certain games, and forms of literature. The consequence of drinking too much alcohol and engaging in sexual intercourse outside of marriage was that they would be publicly punished.

3) The scarlet letter does an incredible job capturing the essence of what ist is like in the days puritans were around obviously since this book was written by them. It reflects the puritans values by shaming Hester, the main character, for committing adultery. Because the puritans had such cherished beliefs, they publicly shamed her and marked her with the scarlet letter which clearly shows that the puritans were extremely protective of their beliefs.

The salem witch trials continued because of the uncontrollable hysteria and ended after a year with more than 200 accused victims and 19 hangings.
