Lesson plan writing practice 2

1. Age group: 5 years old

Concept: Blending and listening

Topic: Mixing ingredients in a blender

2. Rationale: By referring to the various sound cards such as /s/ with /t/, /w/ and /k/ etc, the children can place sound cards on the visual card of a blender. From this, the children can relate to the function of a blender which is to blend and also learn about the blending of /s/ with other sounds. This can also allow the students to brainstorm to think of words that begin with /s/ blends. In addition, before this activity, the children will also refer to and complete a worksheet of /s/ blends to further increase awareness of blending /s/ with other sounds.

3. Objectives
- Create phonological awareness when the children produce the sounds before they place the cards on the blend and also attempt to blend the sounds as they bring the cards together
- Allow the children to
be aware of various /s/ blends by saying the words that start with /s/ while attempting to identify the correct /s/ blend to the respective picture on the worksheet

Age group: 5 years old

Concept: Blending and listening

Topic: Mixing words with /s/ and /h/ into a bowl

2. Rationale: By mixing letter cards containing /s/ and /h/ into a bowl, the students will have to produce each sound before they place it in. They will also tape two cards together after mixing and understanding the formation of a new sound /sh/. Hence, they will relate better and have a hands on experience through blending and producing the sounds as they do it.

3. Objectives
- Create phonological awareness when the children produce /s/ and h/ before mixing them into the bowl. They would also produce and think about words that contains /sh/.
- Allow the children to
be aware of various words that contain /sh/ by saying and writing them down to allow them to understand that /sh/ can come either at the beginning or the end (sheep, ship, shin, shell, dish).
