What is Adab?

There was a few definitions written on the whiteboard but this one is the most accurate I guess.

"Proper manner and appropriate behaviors in all aspects in life towards all creations."

Why?

It's important to cultivate adab in ourselves so that we can gain rewards from Allah SWT. Not only that, we also need to practice appropriate behaviors so that peaceful environment can be created. By doing so, people feel comfortable being around us and we will loved by many.

How?

Firstly, speak kindly, use polite and uplifting word and avoid harsh word. Secondly, recite doa before and after entering the washroom. People find it childish but there are many benefits behind it. Last but not least, when our lecturers talk, listen to them carefully. I think this one is crucial because we will be blessed if we respect our lecturers and it can be part of the reason of our success in the academic.

In conclusion, as an adolescent, Adab isn't a new thing anymore. Supposedly, it has been nurtured in ourselves since we were a kid but still, we're human. Let's try our best nurturing Adab.

Full name as stated, people usually call me Najihah or Gee.

I usually spend my leisure time by reading books or novels. I can't really tolerate with romance genres so before buying a certain book, I will read the synopsis several times and I'll check the feedback from the other readers. Favorite author is Teme Abdullah because his Jalanan Series are top notch. Inspiring yet humorous. No doubt.

Besides, I fond of cooking and baking so once I'm home, the kitchen is mine. Tiktok is the main source that I rely on whenever i'm out of idea to cook, especially KA and Che Sayang Kitchen. My best dish is Masak Lemak Udang, I even received a very positive feedback from my brother. That was the first and last time he complimented my dish. I wish to hear it again but my cooking skill is inconsistent lol.

Not only that, we also discussed about Pillars of Islam. There are five of them and most of the Muslims completed 3 out of five which is Shahada, Salah, Sawm.

The advantages of this hadith:

• Educational Methodology:

  The manner in which the hadith is presented, with the angel Gabriel asking questions and the Prophet Muhammad providing answers, demonstrates an effective method of teaching and learning and the manners to be followed while seeking knowledge.  

• Integration of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan:

  The hadith integrates the physical aspects of worship (Islam), the internal beliefs (Iman), and the spiritual excellence (Ihsan). This holistic approach underscores that Islam is not just about external actions but also about inner faith and spiritual consciousness.

The wisdom of seeking knowledge:

• Knowledge is a pillar of faith:

  The Hadith equates knowledge with fulfilling one of the five pillars of Islam, signifying its importance in Islamic practice

• Knowledge is obligatory for all muslims:

  The hadith emphasizes that the pursuit of knowledge is a collective responsibility for entire Muslim community

• Continuous learning:

  It encourages us to continuously seeking knowledge throughout our lives, recognizing that learning is an ongoing process.

We can actually see Akhlak from the perspective of a tree.

• Root:

  It's related to our Akidah(Beliefs), how we understand about this life, its purpose, how we think of it. Everything started from here.

• Tree-trunk:

  In order to grow a tree, we need to know basic knowledge about planting. Same goes to us, Muslims, we need to nurture and make sure we understand what exactly basic Ibadah is. Once we know the basic things, we certainly know how we should behave, portraying good demeanour to the world.

• Leaf:

  In order to grow leaves, we should always keep an eye to our trees while manuring it. In Islamic point of view about nurturing Akhlak, we need to propagate our circumcision and stay Istiqamah. As a result, our Iman will grow slowly and day by day it will be increasing as we gain our Ibadah.

• Fruits:

  Fruits from the tree that we grow can be seen as the result of our efforts in growing Akhlak in ourselves.

Nobody knows when it is going to take place but we can actually see the signs. The signs for the Doomsday can be divided into three which is Minor Signs and Major Signs.

Minor Signs:

• The number of women will increase while that of men will decrease. [Bukhârî]

• Doomsday will not come until the time when children will be quick-tempered and elders will be treated with disrespect. [Harâiti]

• Doomsday will not come to pass before wealth becomes so abundant that no person will be found to give him zakât. When a person is presented zakât, he will say, “I do not need it.” [Bukhârî]

Major Signs:

• Emergence of Dajjal (The Antichrist)

• Return of Isa (Jesus), Peace Be Upon Him

• Emergence of Ya’juj and Ma’juj (Gog and Magog)

Since nobody knows when the Judgement Day is going to happen, it's important for us to believe in it because it's one of six pillars of Iman. We should also be prepared to face it by propagating our Ibadah and always doing good things in our lives.

Actually, there are two main topics on 17th of January so Pillars of Iman is the second one. These pillars can be seen as our pillars of life. For instance, a dad must be obeyed, dedicate to our mom, be kind to our husband, respect our teachers and for the friends, we need to love them. As for the strangers, we need to always forgive them.

The first adab towards parents discussed is convey deep respect and intense love for one’s father. This can be seen through the realistic scenario of Ibrahim A.S and his father. He did not insult or confront his father for his disbelief. Instead, he helped him realized the fallacy of his disbelief. Same goes with us, we must respect our parents by not raising our voices toward them. Even they make a mistake, we, as their children, we must try to talk to them nicely.

Furthermore, Ibrahim A.S refrains himself from belittling his father about his knowledge and wisdom. He asked his father to consider the knowledge bestowed upon him and follow the path of guidance.

Although Ibrahim A.S had been threatened to stone to death by his father, it does not stop him to respect and love his father. Instead, he prayed to the ultimate God and He granted him a better family that consist of Prophets and pious people.

Those are the scenarios that depicted how a prophet respects his father.

To sum up, there is a few adab toward parents that we must adapt in our daily life:

• Be patient and tolerant with parents

• Supplicating for them

• Be grateful to our parents

Hikmah:

Hikmah means wisdom rooted in divine knowledge and understanding. It doesn't only encompass intellect but also string with contemplating of the underlying reasons and purpose behind things, especially when it is related with Quran and divine will. For example, when we have been making dua's and struggle a lot to get a particular job but it turned out we did not pass the interview. We cannot easily assume that Allah did not want to help us. Indeed, He knows what we do not. We need to think positive maybe that particular job did not benefit us or maybe it could drives us crazy for working at that particular company. Who knows, right.

Niat:

When we want to do something, intention plays a big role in it. It is crucial to do everything "lillahi ta'ala" especially when it is related with Ibadah. For instance, we cannot merely perform Salah because we scare that our parents will beat our ass if we do not do so, be sincere and make sure that we perform it because we want to become an obedient servant to the Creator.

Amal:

Amal is deeds, actions or works, particularly those performed with the intention of pleasing Allah. For example, Salah, Zakat and fasting.

Ihsan:

The concept of doing something with excellence, beauty, and sincerity, often translated as doing good or doing something beautiful. There are five principles for Ihsan,

• Awareness

• Acquisition

• Understanding

• Action

• Reflection

Those were the things that we discussed today. Favourite things I heard from naqibah Aina today is " Kita cinta Allah, cinta manusia akan datang pada kita dengan sendiri " Lurvee

What is the meaning of Ibadah? Ibadah is the act of worshipping Allah, the one who creates the whole universe. Hikmah of Ibadah means the understanding of what is hidden behind the act of worshipping Allah. There are bunch of Ibadah but we just want to highlight a few of them.

The first ibadah is salah. As mentioned in 29:45, salah is the main pole of religious and this act will prohibit immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah know the (deeds) that you do. Because of that, we must cultivate the intention to always improve our salah. We should perform it sincerely in order to obtain His pleasure in the world and in the Hereafter.

Fasting is the second Ibadah and the hikmah is helping us develop takwa and piety. By abstaining from eating and drink, we learn to control our nafs. Controlling nafs helps us refrain ourselves from doing immoral behavior and lead us closer to Allah.

Next, zakat. Zakat is the indicative of the sincerity (sidq) of a person’s desire to please Allah, may He be exalted. It also purifies wealth, so that the wealth will grow literally and metaphorically.

Haji is also one of the Ibadah that we discussed. It is a special ibadah, we can't merely perform it since it's a core religious obligation and one of the five pillars of Islam. It's a journey of spiritual purification and connection with Allah, with specific rituals and requirements that need to be followed for it to be considered valid. One of the hikmah of performing hajj is it wipes away all of previous sins. Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet Muhammad PBUH said “Whoever performs Hajj for Allah’s pleasure and does not have sexual relations with his wife, and does not do evil or sins then he will return as if he were born anew.” (Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 26, Number 596.

In conclusion, as a muslim, it is mandatory to do any act Ibadah in order to gain Allah's pleasure as well as becoming a better servant. It is not necessary to do everything at once, slowly but surely :) InshaAllah.

The topic is Preparation of Salah with Khusyu'. First of all, The three obligatory conditions for prayer are Islam, sanity, and puberty.

A few conditions for valid prayer are to be clean from major and minor impurity and to have the body, clothes and place of prayer clean.

Furthermore, what is khusyu'? It is focus, humble, peace, aware that they are praying to God, not doing futile things in aimless prayer

Straight to the point, what is the preparation to perform salah with khusyu'?

• Make preparation to salah

• Perform it at the appointed time

• If food is served, eat it before perform salah

• Do not eat or drink too much before salah

• Improve wudhu'

• Limit movement during salah

• Perform it in a peaceful environment

• Eyes on the mat where you prostrate

• Learn to understand every surah that we recite during salah

• Make sure wear clean attire

Those are some of the preparation that we can make in order to perform salah with Khusyu'. Although it is really challenging to get Khusyu', we need to always trying our best, InshaAllah, Allah will ease it.

1. Obedient

   • Obey to all Allah's command. When we're performing salah, we need to make sure that we perform it at the appointed time and all the pillars and conditions should be completed.

     "Indeed, prayer is an obligation upon the believers, at specified times." Surah al-Nisa’ (4:103)

2. Exerting (Jihad)

   • We need to strive hard against desires and the interference of Satan. It is important to maintain our devotion and it requires a continuous inner struggle. We need to fight against the worldly matters and our laziness.

3. Reflection (Muhasabah)

   • Reflection means continuously evaluate and improve yourself. Every recitation in salah and movement invite us to reflect on our relationship with Allah. There is a dalil reflected about the need to understand what is read.

     " O you who believe! Fear Allah and be mindful of what He has prepared for tomorrow (the Hereafter).." Surah al-Hashr (59:18).

4. Iffah (Maintaining Dignity & Chastity)

   • Protect yourself from committing adultery and immoral things. A sincere prayer prevents shameful and wrongdoing. It is based on the dalil,

     “Indeed, prayer prevents shameful and wrongdoing.”

     Surah al-‘Ankabut (29:45).

5. Tawaduk (Humble)

   • Be humble in front of Allah and other creations such as animals, other person, and even the plants. Our movements in salah such as bowing and prostrating train the heart to be submissive and humble. It is proven through surah al-Mu'minun (23:1-2).

     "Successful indeed are the believers, those who are humble in their prayers."

     
     

There is a story of Sayyidina Ali r.a. Back in the days, Sayyidina Ali r.a. was hit in the thigh by an arrow. When he tried to pull it out, he felt so much pain. Someone suggested that the arrow be pulled out while he was praying. When he finished praying, he asked if they had pulled out the arrow. They said yes. When asked, did he not feel any pain? He said, he did not feel any pain at all.

In conclusion, try to improve our salah so that we can nurture salah with Khusyu'. It may be hard but it is not impossible. When we preserve and perform our salah sincerely, Allah will take care of us, InshaAllah.

Ibrahim, Siti Hajar, and the Lesson of Trust and Patience in Hajj:

Prophet Ibrahim was commanded by Allah to leave his wife Siti Hajar and their baby Ismail in a barren desert. Despite the harsh situation with no water or food, Siti Hajar trusted Allah and showed great patience.

When Ismail became thirsty, Siti Hajar ran between two hills (Safaa and Marwah) searching for water. Miraculously, a spring (Zamzam) appeared to quench their thirst.

This story teaches us to trust Allah’s plan, be patient in difficult times, and never give up hope.

During Hajj, Muslims remember Siti Hajar’s running by walking between Safaa and Marwah hills, showing their faith and perseverance, just like she did.

The significance of Idul Adha:

1. Commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s Obedience:

   • Allah tested Prophet Ibrahim by asking him to sacrifice his beloved son, Ismail.

   • Ibrahim obeyed without hesitation, showing total submission to Allah.

   • Before the sacrifice happened, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram—a sign of mercy and reward for obedience.

2. Symbol of Sacrifice & Surrender to Allah:

   • Raya Hajj reminds Muslims to submit to Allah’s will, even when it’s difficult.

   • It teaches the value of faith, obedience, and sacrifice.

4. Caring for Others:

• The meat from the sacrifice is shared:

  • 1/3 for the family,

  • 1/3 for relatives/friends,

  • 1/3 for the poor and needy.

• This act encourages generosity, community care, and empathy.

Why we call it as Hari Raya Korban?

• It is can be related with our sacrifices especially when we love something, Allah tends to test us on it. For example, Allah knows we love our parents so much and one day, He takes them from us, we need to accept it with open heart and believe that there is silver lighting behind it.
