The life they were living in England was one of a closed mindset. Where they weren't allowed to freely do what they wanted and live their lives. The people of England lived a certain lifestyle that was forced upon the pilgrims, and they sought to go somewhere that would welcome the lives they wanted to live. Their American dream was to be able to practice the religion that they wanted away from Englands ruling.

The british had very hypocritical views in which those in power had freedom ad the middle, lower classes were left to suffer with strict laws, taxes, and rules. What the Americans then valued was freedom across the board to all people, regardless of their differences. These values that they lived by then shaped America to becoming the country of freedom still to this day.
