Thank you for expierence. You're having a good point. We personally like to travel independet because you can dicide which sights you want to see. I´m happy to hear about your trip. 
I was in upper austria again just like last year with my family. we were at the hallstätter see and we explored things around it there. Some of our activities were hiking on the Krippenstein, visiting the castle in Bad Ischl and many other things. On the picture you can see my sister, my boyfriend and me on a SUP on the Hallstätter See.

I am the same opinion than you. I think organzied tours are better than individual tours. You have a tour guide, who shows you everything. 
Maybe I would later also take a organize tour in a group because you are not alone. For example in the USA it could be interesting to see many sights.
