The concept and scope of welfare are very broad, and the management of public facilities can also be considered part of welfare policies. Parks are no exception. Parks are open to local residents free of charge, allowing them to lead better lives. For some, it serves as a place of rest, soothing their work-weary lives, while for others, it is a meeting spot for friends. In this way, parks have a significant impact on us, and managing them can also be seen as an aspect of welfare.

I visited Gwangju Stream and Gwangju Park. Gwangju Stream is a river that flows through the center of Gwangju. Around the stream, there are bicycle paths and walking trails, making it a place where many people visit for relaxation and exercise. Gwangju Park is located not far from Gwangju's downtown area. This proximity enhances the accessibility of the park, allowing many citizens to enjoy it.

Gwangju Stream starts from Mudeungsan Mountain, flows through Gwangju's city center, and eventually merges with the Yeongsan River. Therefore, it is an excellent place for cycling or walking. There are ramps in several places for those riding bicycles, allowing easy access for the elderly or people with disabilities. Moreover, while walking, you can encounter wildlife such as herons and mallards, providing a place to soothe the body and mind tired from urban life. I believe that consistently maintaining and improving Gwangju Stream is truly a welfare service for the citizens of Gwangju.

Gwangju Park was built on the site of a former Shinto shrine that was constructed during the Japanese colonial era. Because it was once a shrine, there are many stairs, which may be inconvenient for the elderly and disabled. However, at night, street vendors set up in front of the park, making it a popular spot for young people. Like Gwangju Stream, this forested park in the middle of the city felt quite refreshing to me. Additionally, near Gwangju Park, there are the Citizens' Hall and Citizens' Culture Center, providing various forms of entertainment. This makes Gwangju Park an important part of the lives of Gwangju citizens.

Welfare enhances the quality of life for citizens, and I believe parks are also part of welfare. Many citizens are exhausted from busy city life and need comfort. This comfort should come from the leisure that nature provides. For this leisure, parks are essential. I believe parks are the ultimate form of welfare.
