His actions to keep America from becoming a bureaucracy and establishing nominating conventions were positive influences on America. These actions make some think he is a great president, however, this is only partially true. If you remove Andrew Jackson from the 20 dollar bill for things like the Indian Removal Act and him owning slaves, you need to remove Washington from the 1$ and Jefferson from the 2$, for both of them did very similar acts. George Washington, for instance, owned 123 slaves and burned down several Iroquois villages during the Revolutionary War. Jefferson owned over 600 slaves during his life. While Jackson has committed several sins, he has also done several things for the good of this nation, such as expanding voter's rights and ridding us of national debt. He is not a 100% evil or 100% good man, he is a bit of both worlds. He should not be removed from the 20 dollar bill for doing the same sins that other presidents on the dollar committed. I don't condone these acts of Slavery and Indian Removal, in fact O despise them, but you shouldn't blame Jackson for them happening considering how he grew up and the time he came from. Despite the bad things he did like forcing Native Americans westward on the trail of tears and owning slaves, he did many great things for America. Back then people didn't know any better and thought of slavery as a normal thing. I don't think it's fair to call him a bad man because of it. Jackson laid the framework for democracy, paid off the national debt, gained new lands for America, strengthened relationships with foreign nations and issued a new currency. I agree that Andrew Jackson was a great man and was vital to the now extremely important United States, he did do some questionable things in his lifetime. not only did he own 150 slaves when he died, but he drove out native Americans, and contributed to the trail of tears. In his time, yes, Andrew Jackson was a hero and there was nothing more to it. but in this day and age, there's going to be a lot of people who don't want to have an owner of 150 slaves advertised on something held in such high regard such as our currency.
