Have you ever thought about life without things such as water, salt and other necessary things? Chemical bonding is the only reason we have these. Chemical bonding is the joining of atoms to form a new substance. Without chemical bonding we would not have any object or substances besides pure substances, This means that we would not have some of the most vital substances on earth, such as water and salt. There are three different types of chemical bonds: Ionic, Covalent, and Metallic bonds.

The electrons in Ionic bonds are given or taken from atom to atom. The type of structure formed in ionic bonds is a crystal lattice. The properties of an Ionic bond are brittle, soluble, and conductive of electricity.

In a covalent bond, one or more electron is shared between atoms, in order to form a full outer valence energy level. When a covalent bond occurs, a molecule is formed. This new substance is brittle and has a high melting point.

When a metallic bond occurs, long chains of atoms is formed, and electrons move freely around the nuclei in this chain.
