Cyrano de Bergerac Themes by Simeon

Love is one of the central themes in Cyrano de Bergerac as he shows his true passion to Roxanne while she shows her true to love to Cyrano by telling him that she loves Christian. While this happens to be heartbreaking for Cyrano it just further adds on his dream for love and the theme.

Appearances is another theme which adds on to the fact that Cyrano hopes that even though his nose is massive people don't make fun of it or call it small. The end result is that most people back then took appearance over inner beauty as this time is still believed love at first sight.

Courage is a large theme as Cyrano shows that all that he does is done with courage like when he went to save Ligniere from the hundred men that were going to attack him because according to Cyrano "They are attacking him because, he is a friend of Cyrano de Bergerac!"

Language is seen as if in a tongue of english but not if it is like normal day english mainly because this takes place in the 1600's where it seems the people spoke in lyrics instead of legitimate wording. But it shows the depth of which the choice of speaking ryhmes changes and makes laughs for the audience within the play.

Communication shows that within the story most characters seem to be able to show proper talking until Cyrano has his conversation with Roxanne in Act II where she talks about who she loves and Cyrano keeps saying "Ah". Though it doesn't seem like they can't talk things out but instead resort to violence the dialogue within the play is rather funny.
