Example - Preschool KWL - Space

These are actual responses from my preschool class for our KWL before & after our space unit. This is just one example of how to use this in a classroom. The teacher could post the K & W and students could, independently, add their knowledge and wonderings before study and then their findings after.

How to Use Padlet in a Classroom

This technology can be used in a classroom in many ways. To begin a teacher could send out questions for students to answer, across many content areas, and then require comments on peer's posts, much like discussion boards for online learning. Inquiries regarding a current read aloud book, a small group book study, science hypotheses, etc.

Another way to use this in the classroom is for passion projects/project based learning. Allowing students to study what they are highly interested in is very popular now. This site allows students to easily post their research, photos, website links, etc. to enhance their project and learning.

Additionally, teachers can use this as a transition tool or an "exit ticket" to the next activity. Teachers can ask questions like, "What 3 things did you learn from this lesson?" "What are you still stuck on?" "What were the main points we covered today?"

Also, this could be used as a community builder in terms of a birthday wall. When it is a student's birthday (or the teacher), a wall can be created for peers to wish send birthday wishes.

All About Padlet

This website has amazing potential for teachers and students alike. Students are able to create a board/boards and add to them throughout the year. These boards can be shared with students, teachers, and parents and are quite user friendly. There are many ways to add to your board including journaling, music, photos, surveys, videos, KWL charts, and more. For the younger learners, there is an icon at the bottom of the posting that uses the topic and has topical photos to choose and add to the post. It also automatically saves so an entire project is not lost!

The pedagogy that aligns with Padlet are inquiry based, collaborative, and reflective. Students can ask questions about topics that appeal to them and post their research. This technology also allows students to post their work and interests, and have their peers comment with a casual, social media feel. It enables the student to delve deeper into subjects without feeling like they are just stuck reading a textbook.

An important safety feature is that the boards can be set to private so only invitees can comment and post on their content. There is even a setting that will turn any profanity into emojis!
