For example,  on page 173 Harry breaks his arm  while playing quiditch. Lockheart says he can fix it and has done it "countless times" but when he dose it, he takes all the bones out of his arm. To further prove my point, the school nurse says "I can mend bone in a second" showing that she is better than Lockheart. Also, on page 100 during class he makes the class take a test about him including questions saying "what is Gildroy lockheart's favorite color" instead of actally teaching them defence agensit the dark arts, the class he  is suposed to be teaching. For example, in the first book it is mentioned that Harry doesn't get any gifts. So when the holidays roll around throughout the series he gets a bit lonely. Harry spoke parseltonge when not noticing he is and that was what Salazar Slytherin was famous for. People think, because he can speak parseltonge he is related to Salazar Slytherin and has opened the chamber of secrets. They are all looking at the dark side of Harry saving someone by specking snake in stead of the good side.
