This book is rooted in Mexican folklore, but also acknowledges first day of school jitters. It's an #ownvoices title, both written and illustrated by Latinx people. This would be a great read aloud during the first week of school and make a great display. I am purchasing one for a read aloud and one for display so that it is always available.

This book highlights a day with Papi, but the illustrations tell a story of gentrification and the pushing out of Latinx people from their neighborhoods.  Many stories can be told and highlighted through this book.  The representation of a father who is present in their child's life is also an important one.
