This is necessary due to the conditions of which bacteria thrive and tissues dies, lack of oxygen and inability to get antibiotics where they are needed. This small patch could make a tremendous difference in how we approach healing of wounds, such as a decrease in oral antibiotics with an increase in topical antibiotics. This alone could make a massive impact on the antibiotics resistance we're facing today. If we could use this patch to perforate the biofilm to deliver the calcium peroxide creating a bacteriostatic environment, which in turn would allow more oxygen inside, then maybe we could move toward a topical antibiotic option instead of relying so heavily on oral antibiotics. Not only could we move toward correcting the antibiotic issue, but we could help patients out financially by decreasing the amount of operating room visits for debridements and therefor the need for pain medication.
