It details the American flag designs from the past to the present flag. The seamstress in the book Mary Pickersgill takes you on a time travel journey of sorts and makes a usually not so interesting topic very fun and exciting. This book goes over each element of the statue of liberty and describes how each thing came to be. Each piece of the statue has its own story, for example the face looks a lot like the designer’s mother. Also, it took seventy train cars to deliver all of the pieces to be assembled. This book is full of fun details and gives a great representation of how it all came together, as well as the background story.

Firestone, M., & Skeens, M. It shows how he gathered people for protests and marches, and spoke on doing what is right for other humans. This book will undoubtedly inspire children to want to do big things.

Meltzer, B., & Eliopoulos, C.

This is a great story to read to students when you are first explaining what Thanksgiving is and why we have it. This book details the Pilgrims crossing the Atlantic and the first harsh winter. It explains the reasoning behind the first Thanksgiving feast and what it has to do with the Native Americans. This story can be used to explain why we still have Thanksgiving and the importance of giving thanks for our many blessings. There are also many activities that can be done based on this book, by using some of the Thanksgiving website resources I have previously given.

Ross, K., & Croll, C.

This is a story to use when you want to shed light on the current reason most people celebrate Thanksgiving. It is important to know the origin of Thanksgiving and where it came from, but once kids know that, this would be a great book for them. Currently, when most people think of Thanksgiving they think of being with their family and giving thanks for all that they have. This book shows the importance of using Thanksgiving to celebrate your family and friends and all that you have.

Sutherland, M., & Lamut, S.
