This court case decided that same-sex marriage would be legal across the United States. The decision was made by the supreme court, because of the case. This relates to checks and balances and separation of powers because people such as Kim Davis, were refusing to give permits to same-sex couples. This is prohibited because the Judicial Branch had decided that it is legal everywhere to get married to any person of any gender. They used their power to make sure the law that they created in ruling in the court case would remain in use and stop not being used by people such as Kim Davis. This was a big change, but in different ways it kept our country stable. The judicial branch is using this law to remain a stable government. If the judicial branch didn't declare this legal, there would most likely be problems with citizens and the government. So many Americans are pro gay marriage, so if this wouldn't have gone through, there would be problems, maybe making our government less stable.

     The 22nd Amendment established the rule that the president can’t serve for more than 2 terms, or 8 years. This relates to the dynamism of limited government because this makes sure the president is not serving too long, keeping our government changing and limited. If the president were to serve for unlimited about of time we would not have different perspectives on government and opinions. Our country would not be able to change, unless we voted the for a different candidate in re-election, but there is still a chance that the president could stay in office for too long. This amendment keeps our government dynamic and it is a very important addition to the constitution. 

     The 19th Amendment allowed women the right to vote, known as women’s suffrage. When the United States were founded, women did not have the constitutional right to vote. In 1848 the movement for women’s rights launched, creating talk about the rights women should have. The 18th Amendment was ratified on August 18, 1920, giving women the right to vote. This greatly changed popular sovereignty for the better. It gave so many more people who wanted to be involved in the American government, the ability to get their voice heard through a vote. It was a very important change in our country that showed our country can be dynamic along with our society. 

The 14th Amendment

     The 14th Amendment not only gave everyone born or brought into the United States citizenship, that includes slaves. It also created a change in Federalism. It stopped states from denying any citizen the rights of an American. It also declares that all people get equal protection, stopping certain southern states from illegally prosecuting those they felt were less than. This Amendment limited the states' power, changing Federalism from what it was before. Before, almost all southern states were pro slavery, denying the rights of humans. The 14th amendment stopped this, not slavery itself, but the deprivation of rights. This created a change in Federalism. Many states believed the states had power over the federal government, but the 14th Amendment changed that. It changed federalism from having the states have a decent amount of power, to giving the states little decision over the problem of slavery. That showed how Federalism was dynamic.

Failed Ludlow Amendment

     The Ludlow Amendment that never passed, would have allowed Americans to vote if our country were to declare war. This relates to popular sovereignty because it is about the Americans voting and being involved in the government, which is the center of popular sovereignty. It is important that this Amendment didn’t pass to make sure our country stayed stable. This was important for stability because our country may have declared many wars if this had passed, due to the aggressive nature or lack of knowledge on certain situations in our country’s citizens. The failure of this Amendment allowed for our country to stay stable in a very important topic, war. 

Anti-Millionaire Failed Amendment

     The Anti-Millionaire Amendment would have prohibited any citizen from having more than 1 million dollars. It was proposed in 1933 and was didn’t get past Congress. The basics of the Amendment were, that if any citizen had more than that amount, it would be taken and used in the government for national debt. This is an example of stability in limited government because it limited the government from doing something that wasn’t fair to the citizens. It kept our country stable, because it kept the government from abusing their power and taking more money from citizens than they needed. This was an important failure because it kept our government stable in a way that would effect many Americans, and would cause in a massive amount of power given to the federal government.

     Article 6, Clause 2, The Supremacy Clause states that federal laws are more powerful than state laws. So, if a state has a law that contradicts a federal law, the federal law wins. This is related to the stability of federalism because the federal government has to be more powerful than state governments for our country to remain stable. If you think back to the Articles of Confederation, we know that it was chaos back then, and there was no stability. That is because the states had more power than the federal government. The Supremacy Clause makes sure that the government stay stable with a stronger federal government.

On April 5th of 1792, George Washington used the power of the Presidential Veto to veto a bill. The bill would have created more members of the House of Representatives for the north. Washington decided, after consulting with his cabinet, that the bill was unconstitutional. This is because it would have created a higher amount of representatives than allowed in the Constitution. This is an example of dynamic checks and balances because this is the first time a president vetoed a bill, changing the way creating laws was done before. It is an important power that the president has because it keeps out government dynamic.

In 1954, the Brown family felt that segregation in schools violated their 14th Amendment rights. Their cause. Brown v. Board of Education, went to the supreme court, and they rules that schools will no longer be segregated. This was a very important change for our country. Though the 14th Amendment had been created, there was still a prejudice against African Americans. A very important step for this was ending segregation in schools. As our society changed, so did our government, and that kind of dynamism is very important.

     The failed flag desecration amendment would have made defacing the flag in any way illegal. Such as, burning, painting, stepping on, etc. This amendment was not passed because it violates our first amendment right of freedom of speech. We have a right to express our opinions in any way unless it violates a law. Not passing this law kept our government stable. This is because the law wasn’t passed, making sure a law that would worsen our country wouldn’t come through, keeping our government stable!
