1) Reverse engineering is to have a detailed examination of another manufacturers construction to make a reproduction of it.
2) When you use reverse engineering you would use measurement tools as well as tools to remake the object. You could use calipers, rulers, CAD, and 3-D printers.
3) It could be done to find out the cause of a plane crash. When a plane crashes, engineers try to recollect the parts of the plane pieces to find out the cause of the crash. They remake the plane to the best of their ability to find out which part had a manufacturing problem.
Another way it could be used is to improve a phone. You could reverse engineer a phone to try and a find what caused it go wrong. You could do it to try and fix a part of it so it is suitable to use by other people.

1. Reverse engineering is when one takes an object and analyzes closely in order to recreate it oneself. This is done by taking apart the machine if it is complex and reconstructing it one's own way.
2. You can use a caliper to make measurements of the original object and then one can make use of CAD in order to recreate the object later on.
3. The military sometimes uses crashes crafts and other confiscated weapons in order to recreate them later on. This would include the recreation of nuclear weapons in Russia during the cold war. Companies can also deconstruct devices such as laptops and phones in order to improve their own. This can also occur through software is companies look at code in order to figure out what to do themselves, open source soft wares and operating systems such as Linux being common examples.

Tools that may be useful include a vernier caliper, CAD, rulers, and a software program.
3. One example of there reverse engineering was used was Russia reverse engineered and American plain that crashed in their country, and although some of the measurements were still off due to their using the metric system, the plane still worked. Reverse engineering could also be useful if you lost a file of the process in which something was made but you have a prototype. You could reverse engineer what you have in order to produce more of them/it.
