To commemorate King Charles’s Coronation, we have created a town trail for people to enjoy. The trail guides you on a circular route around historic buildings, along the River Trent and through the marketplace, returning through Coopers Square and to George Street to finish. Along the trail, you will explore some of the hidden gems of the town, see its rich industrial past and embrace its art and beauty.

Burton-on-Trent is a community with more than 76,000 people and its history stretches over 1400 years. At its heart was the Benedictine abbey of which only fragments survive. The marketplace is situated outside where the abbey once stood, and the market was an integral part of the town’s early growth and sustainability. Later as the brewery industries flourished, the town was filled with breweries taking advantage of the unique local water qualities.

Sitting behind the High Street is the River Trent and Washlands which bring beauty to our industrial town. The Washlands are environmentally significant, rich in wildlife, trees and plants.

The trail will take about 90 minutes and is a circular route from Middleway Carpark on Guild Street. There is a map and questions to guide you. It is suitable for all ages, and you might like to create a team with family/friends. The trail is accessible for all. Where there are steps, there are sloping paths nearby.

We have a Selfie Challenge for you to take Selfies at five special places of interest along the route:

· Water Tower

· Marmite Sculpture—Love it or hate it?

· College Statue

· Malt Shovel

· Cooper in Coopers Square

The trail can be followed by a booklet that can be downloaded or printed copies are available at Burton Library soon.
