         <description><![CDATA[<div>Paragraph 1:<br>Strength:<br>+Allows the researcher to explore personal feelings about sensitive subjects. <br>+Which can help to overcome barristers of power and status inequality - WC in lower streams. +Rapport easily.<br>+Labor's research - open up and respond fully.<br>+Valid data.<br><br>Limitation:<br>- Younger pupils have a shorter attention span - too demanding.<br><br>Paragraph 2:<br>Strength:<br>+Flexibility - freedom to vary the questions.<br><br>Limitation:<br>- Children may have difficulty in keeping to the point of streaming.<br>- May present contradictory or irrelevant responses.<br><br>Paragraph 3:<br>Strength:<br>+Gathering valid data.<br>+Deeper understanding of how each pupil feels about streaming and the effects of streaming on them.<br>+Streaming for WC pupils will bring different experiences from MC pupils.<br>+ WC pupils are less likely to talk positively about school.<br><br>Limitation:<br>- It can take a long time to interview each pupil and adult as the interviewer is likely to cater follow up questions to their responses.<br>- To get a good/big sample size - they will need to interview a lot of people - which will take a lot of time.<br><br>Paragraph 4:<br>Strength:<br>+Qualitative date.<br>+More in depth meanings.<br>+Draw conclusions and make comparisons.<br>+Interpretivists prefer.<br> <br>Limitation:  <br>-Teacher too busy teaching, marking work etc - no free time.<br>-Pupils - who are part of anti - school subcultures refuse.<br>- It could have a negative impact on teachers as they could lose their jobs.<br>- They don't want to be seen to participate in a discriminatory practise.<br>- Schools may refuse access.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Evaluate the strengths and limitations of using self completion written questionnaires to investigate unauthorised absences from school</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Paragraph 1:<br>Strength:<br>+They can be distributed easily to large number of pupils, parents or teachers.<br>+They are all found in one institution.<br><br>Limitation:<br>-The school may not keep or may be unwilling to share an unauthorised absence list.<br>-May make the school look bad if a lot of pupils have bad attendance - shows the school is not doing anything about it.<br><br>Paragraph 2:<br>Strength:<br>+Establish patterns and trends in relation to unauthorised absences.<br>+E.g. the pupils with the highest absences may be because of caring responsibilities at home, or dislike of school, to parents arranging family holidays in term time.<br><br>Limitation:<br>-May not be completely truthful.&nbsp;<br>-Teachers trying to make the school look better.<br>-Pupils just ticking random boxes/not actually reading the question.<br>-Invalid/unreliable.<br><br>Paragraph 3:<br>Strength:<br>+Schools are a good source of ready made sampling frames.<br>+Keep lists of pupils and staff - provide accurate sampling frame.<br>+Representative sample.<br><br>Limitation:<br>-Very low response rates especially when they ask about sensitive issues.<br>-May not want to discuss why they have frequent absences from school.<br>-Personal and private.<br><br>Paragraph 4:<br>Strength:<br>+Children have a shorter attention span.<br>+Short questions/questionnaires can be more effective than lengthy interviews.<br><br>Limitation:<br>-If the children who are absent a lot it will be harder to physically hand them the questionnaire to complete as they may not be in to receive it.<br>-If they are off a lot they may not be in to return it before the deadline.</div>]]></description>
