"Miss Manette, I am a man of business. I have a business charge to
acquit myself of. In your reception of it, don’t heed me any more than
if I was a speaking machine-truly, I am not much else."

Jarvis Lorry is an older business man, business being the main thing he establishes his life on. Throughout the story we frequently notice him constantly coming back to his morals as a business man, basing many of his decisions on those very morals. In one instance, we see him give a dear friend, Dr Mannette, some advice from his point of view as a businessman.

“If it will do you any good, Mr. Carton, if it would make you happier, it would make me very glad!”
“God bless you for your sweet compassion!”

Lucie is constantly portrayed as young and beautiful, as well as very kind and sincere. She is the daughter of Doctor Mannette, who she thought was dead for many years, only to be told my Jarvis Lorry he was alive. Throughout the story, we see as she grows up, taking care of her elderly father. We also see her being empathetic for characters such as Darnay and Sydney Carton, as everyone seems to love her for her kindess and beauty.

Creative Piece- Haiku

One Lucie Mannette
Woman of much Compassion
Golden Thread that bonds

"I would ask you to believe that he has a heart he very, very seldom reveals, and that there are deep wounds in it. My dear, I have seen it bleeding."

Sydney Carton is seen as a very depressing character, always sad and down. It frequently seems as if he has no will to live. Until he meets Lucie Mannette. Lucie shows him more kindness than he even gives himself. She gives him a taste of love and happiness, and although she is married, she shows compassion for him when few others do. This leads Sydney to fall in love with her, and ironically enough it is stated Sydney looks very similar to Lucie's husband, Charles Darnay (very handsome).

“You have no idea how such an apprehension weighs on the sufferer’s mind, and how difficult—almost impossible—it is, for him to force himself to utter a word upon the topic that oppresses him.”

In the beginning of the book, the first main plot point we see is Lucie trying to rescue and basically bring her father back from the dead. Although he was indeed rescued, it could be said that part of him never left that cell. He is absent minded, and very troubled, similar to a veteran with PTSD. Although he is a Doctor, it was the Businessman, Jarvis Lorry, who helped him overcome his sickness, using his business skills.
