I usually spend the month steeped in magical and supernatural content (which I didn't do this year), so that, on Samhain night, I can do something really extraordinary.

For me, sometimes, that's as simple as going outside, since I usually stay indoors. For a few moments, I sip my tea, sitting in my mother's garden and listening to the sounds of the night. I feel safe, and sometimes mystical, whether or not the moon is with me. Intent is *everything*.

Sometimes it means watching my favorite magic-themed movie, which I reserve just for this time of year. That means I'm in my dark bedroom watching The Craft with candles all around.

But it always means wearing a costume that has meaning for me. Last year one of my two cats, Salem, was ill. I spent that Samhain cuddled up with him, with markings on my face and cheeks made haphazardly with black lipstick that made me look like I had a cat's black nose, and whiskers. We took pictures together, and I cherished being with him. He passed away a few weeks later, and it will always be a precious memory for me.

As this year's Samhain falls on a Tuesday, which is a fire day for me, I may watch a movie about the witches of Salem, while wearing my vampire fangs (this year's theme is vampires, courtesy my obsession with Astarion of Baldur's Gate 3), and light a candle in honor of all my pets who have passed on. ]]> 2023-10-16 01:50:12 UTC https://padlet.com/readbymarie/livingmagically/wish/2747300036 readbymarie https://padlet.com/readbymarie/livingmagically/wish/2749020760 Samhain and Beltane fall in the season of the Scorpio.
