Chapter 4:

In Part 1, the other Wes is getting caught with the lots of money and Tony is wondering where he got it from, accusing him of dealing drugs (which he is). This is a situation where Wes thought Tony would be almost proud, but now he is caught lying and saying "I made this money DJing" which his mother believes (70). He is now on the streets telling drugs and making money while lying to his family and getting himself in serious illegal trouble is he gets caught. This is where the Wes's stories connect, because in Part 2 the author Wes is spoiling out of control with bad grades, poor attitude and a graffiti "obsession" leading to "I [him] being arrested" which is similar to the trouble other Wes is getting into with prior conflicts with his knife (81).

Chapter 3:

In Part 1 of Chapter 3, Author Wes's Mom was giving him the best of the best opportunities, she decided "I was not going to public school" trying her best to keep her child out of trouble and eventually sending him away to military school for better levels of challenges and discipline. (47). On the other hand other Wes had gotten into the web of drugs and was drinking it up with the older boys and all his mom said was to "stay away from drinking" and not giving him a consequence because she already had a child in the web of drugs and alcohol (62).

Chapter 2:

In Chapter 2, the other Wes gets into a heated fight with a "smaller" weaker kid than him, which leads him to pull out a "long-bladed knife" and his buddy woody warns him to not "do it, man. Dude is not worth it" because he wants to prove himself to Tony that he is strong and tough enough for their neighborhood (33). This is different from the author Wes because him and his family moved up to New York with his grandparents, playing basketball in the new stomping grounds avoiding trouble and criminal activity.

Chapter 1:

The author Wes is getting disciplined by his father for hitting his younger sister, which his mother believes is not right, his dad says "Main Man, you can't hit people, and particularly women" which portrays the difference between Author and other Wes because the other Wes does not receive discipline and punishment, and hence he doesn't learn from his mistakes (11).

Chapter 5:

In this chapter Mary states, "It's too late... Wes is already gone" while the other Wes has been arrested for shooting a man, the author Wes is being reprimanded for trying to run away from military camp (17). This quote separates the two of them by showing the weight to there actions. the other Wes "already gone" shows that for him, this is when the strong reality sets in and his life will begin to go down while he is in jail for his actions. The author Wes had less substantial actions and it will intern lead to his discipline and lead him to a better place

Chapter 6

In this chapter the author Wes says "Years earlier, I had run through these same woods with all of my might, looking for safety, trying to get away from campus. Tonight, I ran through the same woods looking for safety, but in the other direction" (Moore 122). This shows that while the other Wes made yet another bad decision and got caught by the cops, the author Wes got wrapped up in his "past" and found his safe place. This divides the two by demonstrating how they were both in trouble, the other Wes for dealing drugs and the Author Wes for being better then the people who dealt the drugs.

Chapter 7:

In part two of this chapter the other Wes says "'I'm done man... I want to get out. Do something different with my life. But I'm not sure what" (Moore 138). While the other Wes is attempting to set his life back on track, the Author Wes had already done so, this creates a strength between the two of them. Showing that the other Wes is fighting to be better and move in life, Connecting the author Wes and the other Wes together.

Chapter 8

In part two of this Chapter the author Wes says "It made me think deeply about the way privilege and preference work in the world, and how many kids who didn't have 'luck' like mine in this instance would find themselves forever outside the ring of power and prestige" (Moore 160). This quote demonstrates the complete divide between both author Wes and other Wes at the end of the book, explaining that Author Wes had the "luck" along with the figures in life to get where he is now, where as the other Wes was on the other side of the spectrum with no luck and no figures to stop his bad decisions.
