Technology, school, and media can play a huge role in your personal health. School is a very big influencer as the book says “School is typically the largest and most important institution
with which young people are involved, and it is a primary con-
text for their development. School influences adolescent risk
behaviors in many aspects. Schools have broad structural
characteristics that vary (such as the socioeconomic status of
the population they serve, their size and the ratio of teachers
to students, school and classroom size, and student and
teacher mobility).“ ( pg 6 section 4.2)
It can affect your personality as well as your risk factors. “ another big factor is technology just because it is so ingrained in our daily lives. The book says “Among the environmental influences that affect teenagers’ de-
velopment, perhaps the most difficult to study is the wide,
fast-evolving array of media and technologies that are part of
their lives. Any list of the sorts of devices and programming to
which young people may have access is likely to be at least
somewhat outdated within months, but researchers have be-
gun actively exploring both the effects of media on adolescent
behavior and ways of structuring both their interactions with
it and interventions designed to address media-related prob-
lems.” The last big influencer is media which is very intertwined with technology. People tend to use their likes and dislikes to categorize themselves on social media and this can lead to very cliquey behavior “A third
theoretical model posits that adolescents use media as part of
their individuation process. They use their preferences for pro-
gramming or music to convey messages about their social
identity, in the same way that their choices of clothing and
peer groups do” (pg 8 section 4.2)

There was a stretch of time during volleyball season where I was forced to make a bad health decision because of school. I was on the girls volleyball team so we had to stay at school until 5:00 meaning I was getting home at 5:30 having done no homework. Then by the time I was done with my homework I had no time to eat dinner. It was a very bad cycle that continued until seasons end.
