Lock did eventually shift his thinking a little and acknowledged that children must be born with some innate characteristics, but that not all shared the same characteristics, nor did they share them equally. He maintained that the environment that a child grew up in was the dominant determinant in who they would become.

Though incorrect, it generated curiosity in others who continued to research how life was formed from the point of conception and on.
