He gained a general education at a famous public school and had special military training at Sandhurst with British infantry. He succeeded the throne on 23 October in 1910 and brought used modern ideas to develope Thailand like western civilization. He founded the Chulalongkorn University and hospital and changed the education to be more western in style. He was the youngest of five sons and went to study in England at the age of 10 and he then went to Eton College. King Prachadhipok was known as the "King without a throne", and he stayed in England with a silent condition, and
suffered from chronic heart disease. He was the last absolute king of Siam and his inactivity brought on the Thai revolution of 1932, which bloodlessly ended the absolute monarchy and was abdicated on March 2, 1935.

One of Bangkok’s most famous and spectacular Buddhist temples is Wat Arun. Wat Arun’s name is derived from the Hindu God of dawn. After the destruction of the former capital Ayutthaya by the Burmese, King Taksin travelled to Thonburi to establish a new capital on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. It is believed that he vowed to rebuild the ravished temple just as dawn was breaking in 1768. Therefore, having the temple renovated and renamed to the Temple of Dawn.

Wat Arun is a Khmer style temple with four stupas (prangs) and one in the middle. The layout was based on Khmer, Hindu and Buddhist cosmology to represent the five sacred mountains which were home to the Hindu gods. The central structure represents Mount Meru, the center of the universe. King Rama III ordered that colorful ceramics and porcelains be used to form elaborate motifs and intricate designs. This design causes the stupas to shimmer and shine in the sunlight when its silhouette is illuminated against the river, giving the temple a unique appearance that has to be seen close up to be fully appreciated. Wat Arun is quite magical as the day fades to dusk, the sky color glow, and the lights come on.

Rama V, was the fifth monarch of Siam under the House of Chakri. He was known to the Siamese of his time as the Royal Buddha. His reign was characterized by the modernization of Siam, governmental and social reforms. As Siam was threatened by Western expansionism, Chulalongkorn, through his policies and acts, managed to save Siam from colonisation. All his reforms were dedicated to ensuring Siam's survival in the face of Western colonialism, so that Chulalongkorn earned the epithet the Great Beloved King. He reigned from 1 October 1868 – 23 October 1910.
