Blended learning in the classroom veers from the traditional "sit and get" approach and gives students both responsibility and choice in learning and skill-building. Active learning through both online and in-person collaboration appeals to all types of learners.

I use Kagan structures on a regular basis in my classroom, so the collaborative aspect of blended learning is not new to me, nor is the idea of having students use online resources to research instead of lecturing over that material. And as English teachers, we've all used individual conferencing to help students with skill development. However, watching the final video, while awesome for the kids and teacher during class, is very intimidating. Planning for this type of instruction on the front end has to be a huge job.

Blended learning to me is like differentiated instruction. Where you are allowing students to work at their own pace, collaborate (teach) each other, and gets away from teacher lecture in the classroom so that the teacher has more time to work with students who are struggling. Blended learning relieves anxiety and stress off the students and keeps them from getting board by spending time of things they already know. The "AHA" moment from the video is seeing how all the students are engaged in the lessons. I use a lot of these techniques in class, but it is all still teacher paced. I would love to arrange it so that it can be more student paced, but the issue is finding the time to transition it to this format. The other concern I have is what do you do with the students who master all the content prior to the end of school and those who are still behind in content come the end of the school year?

Blending learning is using face to face instruction and online resources to connect and increase academics. Using posters and establishing the expectations is important in order for the rotations to work effectively. Itś important students are held accountable in each station and they understand the ẄHY¨. The teacher assistants in the first example was nice and they were so sweet. That builds community in the classroom.

The premise of 'Blended Learning' is similar to the idea of CrossFit (though, full disclosure, I've never engaged in a single second of CrossFit) while one is athletic and the other intellectual. It's a matter of keeping the brain or body constantly off-balance and, thus, adaptive. Blended Learning, at a moderate pace, can be effective because students almost don't even realize they're learning when they're effectively learning a whole lot.

Blended learning is using all resources available to us to provide a quality day's instruction. This would include technology, whole group instruction, and the Workshop Model (among other important strategies). **My biggest "Aha Moment" during the teacher example was how the first teacher utilized
students as her "teacher assistant." This gave leaders in the group the expectation to check in with their teammates, help them transition quickly, and to check the group's progress. I LOVE that idea, and if given the chance to do stations I will definitely be using some of her ideas.

Blended learning is when the classroom structure becomes student-led and student-centered. It does not reflect a lecture-based style of teaching, but allows students to learn where they are and demonstrate mastery at their own pace. Technology is incorporated in the form of videos for student learning while the teacher can work face-to-face with small groups.
In a world language classroom, this can be in the form of station rotations as well. I liked the idea of students watching videos with guided notes.

Blended learning is taking our face-to-face practices and combining them with technology resources and techniques to engage students in learning that is lead by and centered around them. It uses collaboration and alternative strategies to alleviate student stress and motivate them to participate more in active learning. My ah-ha moment was one that affirmed a belief I already held, that students don't always have to be growing at the same rate and as long as they're growing and moving forward, that's what matters most.

My "aha" moment was when I immediately thought about the Workshop Model training I did with Paula before the third video. I was also intrigued by the idea that students can be on different levels of learning and different activities at the same time. I also realize that incorporating this method requires a lot of planning time. I could see myself using blended learning in a block period successfully.

My big "ah-ha" moment while watching the video was realizing how relaxed the students were, and how much more they wanted to be in the classroom. This allowed each student to specify a specific problem with the learning. Through collaboration, students engaged in discourse and problem-solving to assist their peer. I have used stations for many years and it does make teaching more enjoyable when the students are engaged and self-motivated. As a math instructor, I am reflecting on how I would restructure instructional /planning time to allow students to move through the standards at their own pace and still provide high level instruction.
