Being able to finally fulfill my dream of skydiving in Dubai will give me more motivation to keep on working hard so I can save money and travel, it acts as an intrinsic reward for myself. While doing this extreme leisure of freefalling at over 120 miles per hour can provide me with the feeling of freedom from all the stress of reality, on that very minute I will not be thinking about anything else but only the view and concentrating on screaming my lungs out because of excitement. Moreover, now is the best time for me to keep on doing extreme leisure because I am not getting any younger anymore and it will be harder for me physically and priorities will change when I reach my Older Adulthood and Senior years. 

HOW does this accomplishment reflect my leisure values, behaviors, and lifestyle?

I’m in my 20’s and leisure to me right now is being able to travel and experience nature and new cultures. Another reason why I travel so much because my current geographical location which is Virginia does not allow me to experience the kind of extreme leisure that I am looking for. Moreoever, I like the feeling of being able to be in a rebellious and paratelic state of mind and having enough confidence to conquer these extreme activities to reach the state of “flow”.

Visiting the Aurora Village and viewing the Northern Lights will not only benefit my Mom by relieving her stress but will also benefit myself in other ways. This travel will definitely make me happy because one of my contentment in life is being able to take care of my Queen and spending quality time with her since we were deprived of that for so many years. Viewing the Northern Lights during the winter time with the cold snow around us and sitting in front of the warm bonfire while sipping our sweet wines will give us the sense of sensory pleasure. This will definitely be an unforgettable bonding moment for both of us.

For my Mom this type of vacation represents pure leisure state of mind since she has all the time in her hands right now given that she is retired from her work. While as for me as defined with Neulinger’s Paradigm it can be expressed as leisure-work since I am doing this to make my Mom happy and at the same time seeing her that way makes me feel happy as well. One of my goal in this vacation is to relieve years of stress from my Mom therefore Relaxation Theory can be applied and being able to relax on this vacation is our motivation.

My husband is Active Duty Navy and during this pandemic, they had to go on deployment for almost 10 months to ensure that no one can get sick from COVID-19 and still be able to fulfill their military mission. This opportunity to go on a vacation with him in one of the places we really wanted to visit will give both of us a sense of freedom to just do whatever we want without thinking about the reality that we have back home. Right now since he is back from deployment our priority is to spend time with each other as much as we can before he deploys again, we are already content with him being home but this vacation can really surpass that and make us more happy. I am pretty sure between the two of us he is really the one that will benefit from this because  he will feel relaxed after a long deployment and be able to recharge and restore his energy again to go back to work. This will also benefit our relationship because we can finally have time to be alone together and have the time and space to just be ourselves, completely free of obligations.

Having this kind of vacation is a big thing for us because we usually just spend time together during our free time after work. It maybe just watching our favorite TV show or eating dinner together, which is only a few hours of our day before we rest and go to sleep to wake up and go back to work again, but it is already a happy moment for us because we get to talk and spend time together. With this kind of situation, our lifestyle definitely affects our leisure resulting for us to have little to no leisure time together at all. Therefore, one of our motivation to keep track of this goal is to finally able to spend quality time together which is supported by the self-expression theory.
