My own personal identity:
I would define myself as someone who is very expressive physically and emotionally. Meaning that, most of the time, my behaviour clearly indicates my feelings on something, someone or situation. I tend to show my real feeling about something. For example, if I’m sad, I will cry over it, if I’m happy, I will tell the world how much I’m happy at the moment, if I’m grateful of someone, I will definitely tell them how much I appreciate their efforts and so on. People can easily read my attitude about something only through my facial expressions and actions.

Is it the same as others view me?
Majority of people said yes. Some people said no because of my inability to confront people straight to their face when I’m upset with any of their actions. This is quite accurate because I sometimes do not want to jeopardize my relationship with them by expressing my anger.

Do I have multiple identities in my life?
Definitely yes. I can be a shy person, a talkative friend, an independant student, dependant daughter and a helpful stranger.
What are the factors that shape those identities?
- There are three factors that shape those identities such as environment, situation and the closeness of the relationship. In terms of environment, when I am at home, I will be more talkative because I feel more comfortable. In different situations, I have different identities such as when I am in a social gathering. I will be quiet because there are so many people. Lastly, the closeness of the relationship. I am more peppy with those who I am close with.
How do you negotiate between self and the otherness?
- I would consider the environment and situation. For instance, I could not be the same around everyone, I have to adapt and change my behaviour and attitude accordingly depending on who I am dealing with at that moment. For example, when I am with my family, they view me as the girl who is very jovial and talkative as home will always be my comfartable place but when I am with some people who I am not very close with, they might view me as a very shy and timid girl as I always appear that way in front of those who I do not have a very close relationship with.

How do you negotiate between yourself and the otherness?
- It depends on who I am dealing with at that moment. Only a few close ones knows the real me as I feel comfartable portraying my own personal identity to them as I know they would not judge me and love me for who I am no matter what. For others, I will show my otherness, in order to maintain a harmonious relationship with them. I’m a daughter, sister, student, teacher, friend, enemy and many more. As I mentioned earlier, I’m a serious person but I can also be jovial.

• What are the factors that shape those identity?

- The factors that shape those identities are mainly in terms of responsibility, relationship and situations. For instance, when I have assignments I have to be a serious person and when I’m spending time with close friends I can be carefree this is because of the sense of responsibility. Where else, my other identities like sister, daughter, friend or enemy depends on my relationship with the other person, for example I’m a daughter to my parents but a sister to my siblings. Lastly for student and teacher it depends on the situation, when I’m in the university I’m a student but when I work part time or do my PPG, I’ll be a teacher.

•How do you negotiate between self and the otherness?

- I believe I have learnt to adapt to the different situations and change my identity at all times so that I will be able to cope with the challenges of life. One can never be the same the entire time, if so then you will face a lot of problems. Although I might have one true identity, I think I must constantly change identities for the comfort of others.

However, when it comes to self, I am a more quiet and antisocial person when I'm in my bedroom. I need my alone time and I respect my roommate for giving me that. I always thought I am an extrovert who can socialize with people that I just met, but the truth is I still feel more comfortable with my old friends. I believe I can still switch my identities to adapt to different situations to cope with different people who are walking different shoes in life. That is why I always remind myself to be more adaptable but without losing my own voice of opinions.

Personal identity:
-An easygoing person.

Check whether it is the same as others view you:
-Yeap! Most of them agreed to that.

Do you have multiple identities in your life?
-Yes, I do think I have a multiple identities in my life. When I'm close and comfortable with a person I would be louder and crazier compared to when I first meet them. To someone who are older than me such as parents and lecturers I would be more conservative and are more careful in my words. I am also happy all the time and loves to laugh, some would also question my identity as a girl because I don't act like one according to them since I have a bit of a boyish personality. I also believe that we should treat people like how we want to be treated. Other than that, I'm not fussy and are okay with most of the things, always up to impromptu plans and like to let things flow naturally. I'm also a YouTube lover where I think I've gain a lot of knowledge from things like hacks to even skincare. Psychology also interest me as all of us are different and I like to know why is that. I am also an empathy person and that's why I'm interested in helping people who are in need.

What are the factors that shape those identity?
I believe that my identity are shaped through my upbringings, the people surrounding me, location I'm in, from what I've observed and believe in.

How do you negotiate between self and the otherness?
I think my multiple identities doesn't have much of a difference between them, the closer are a person to me the more they'll know about me. It is between who and where I'm in contact with is when I will use what identity I have. These identities are the ones that makes up who I am today. I would react accordingly to what type of person they are as not everyone is the same. I also believe that common sense are also very important to have in a person as we would be flexible in any situation we are in.
