Growth - constantly reflecting and changing instructional approach; realization that if students are not understanding, the teacher needs to change; ex. looking at the data and determing appropriate measures to take; willingness to ask others for help

Fixed - following the textbook or lessons to a T; very little room for modification or flexibility; ex. teacher who may have low performing students do not look for a solution or welcome advice from others

Teachers that go into PLC with a growth mindset are looking for help and willing to change depending on what comes out of PLC whereas a teacher with a fixed mindset goes in not looking for ideas but for validation for the fixed idea they already have.

Education is an evolving and ever changing profession. A fixed mind-set is flawed. The students change, the needs change, the standards and curriculum change. Within a PLC, you have the opportunity to address these changes with colleagues in your field and come up with innovative ideas to address them.

Within a fixed mind-set, there is an attitude of "I taught it, they should have learned it." Within a PLC Open mind-set, students have multiple opportunities to prove and show mastery
