Teenagers nowadays are so attached to smartphones. This is because of the existence of social media and usage of social media among teenagers have also grown exponentially over the past few of years. Teenagers are so attached to social media websites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. as if their life are depending on them. With social media, teenagers able to update their status frequently. For example, teenagers can tell the entire world about what they are currently doing. Other than that, teenagers will also be able to keep track of the amount of likes and comments of their recent post. Many teenagers admire the huge amount of likes they received from each post, as it makes them feel that they are popular. Teenagers will also do their absolute best to make their life seem perfect in every single post, to show how great they are. When a teen sees that there is someone who is better than them online, not only it will make them feel insecure, thus it will also lower down their self-esteem. This could also lead them to anxiety and depression. Other than that, by leaving negative feedback upon their recent post could also affect their self-image and self-esteem. Furthermore, this article also states that social media could also affect a teenager’s self-esteem by another teenager’s bad behavior. This could happen when someone purposely post an embarrassing picture of their friend online for the entire world to see. The victim will be greatly affected by this act and will having a tough time to recover. Other than that, it will also make the teenager feel lost, abandoned—and worse—to have suicidal thoughts.</div><div>&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Based on the four articles, it is clear that social media does make an impact on teenager’s self-esteem. This was mostly due to the enviousness amongst teenagers against well-known people online. This type of behaviour has caused teenagers self-esteem to dwindle. From our view, we suggest that teenagers should shift their focus to the goodness in their life. Teenagers should also remind themselves that they are also valuable and that they should be grateful for the life that they have been given.<br>&nbsp;<br>Furthermore, teenagers will often compare themselves with people who have noticeably better life than them. Doing such thing is not beneficial at all. Instead, it demotivates them and could potentially leads them to anxiety. To overcome this, teenagers need to realise that social media is not a reality. Everyone experiences hardships and challenges in life. It’s so easy to think that everyone has better life than ours, but that’s just the impression that is given through these images.<br>&nbsp;<br>We think these articles are very informative on how and why teenager’s self-esteem can be affected by social media. The only drawback these articles have is that the lack of ways on how teenagers could prevent this complication. It would be helpful if these articles provide ways of prevention, just in case a teenager who is experiencing this issue came looking for solutions.</div>]]></description>

However , if there is too much exposure from the upward social comparison there could be a negative impact on people’s self evaluation and self esteem. This article also come out with a studies that shows negative effect from the upward social comparison is bigger than downward social comparison. Therefore , users from social networking sites such as Facebook usually had poorer self-evaluation and lower state of self esteem from the exposure of upward social comparison. To conclude , both upward and downward social comparison from the social media users will bring negative affect on our self esteem with no doubt.</div>]]></description>
