I will design an inclusive curriculum with a world-view. For example, I will use contempory examples of work by artists and musicians from around the world and actively seek out resources which resonate with the cultural backgrounds and histories of the children and families in my school community.

Anti-racism is my job too. I pledge to ‘doing the work’ to become more aware of my white privilege, my assumptions and my unconscious bias, so that I can become a more inclusive teacher.

I pledge to be keen towards anti racism and create an all inclusive lesson that will profit my learners.

I pledge to change my approach to racial microaggressions. I liked the idea to challenge the racial comment/ action vs directly calling someone a racist to allow space for productive dialogue.

With languages, there is such a huge scope for exploration into and celebration of different cultures, languages and peoples. I will therefore consider how best to include these diverse cultural learning within my lessons and have space for discussion and reflection on how our cultures can constructively interact and develop into a holistic, diverse and connected community.

It is our collective responsibility to address dominant whiteness in the classroom. I will listen, recognise barriers and respond appropriately, reflecting on my own practices and analysing my assumptions to ensure I am not creating barriers.

Mental Health and class environment

I pledge to try my best to give each child a warm welcome into my class each day, regardless of what is going on/stresses of that day. This is because you could make the difference between a child having a good day or a day they cannot cope with.

I pledge to try and make the class a safe and welcoming environment where pupils can be themselves, grow and thrive!

I want to make sure I centre those most impacted by societal issues in my lessons by bringing their voice into the classroom. This helps make the lesson more concrete and easier for the students to relate to. I also want to make sure that celebrating diversity and inclusion of students is a focus in all I do in school (lessons, form time, extra curricular etc).

I pledge to acknowledge and celebrate the backgrounds, religions, experiences and lives of my students and make education collaborative. I want to make sure that all parts of what I teach recognise diversity, and don't shy away from uncomfortable topics.

To fight the urge to 'sanitise' or pigeonhole speech and dialect within the classroom and instead celebrate all ways in which children are able to communicate and engage within the classroom

I will try to be kind, empathetic and listen to my pupils, step back sometimes and give the pupils and myself space to reflect.
