1 - Gaby
2 - GAH-BEE
3 - She/Her
4 - This is my second career! I used to work in television and film. It wasn't as gratifying as I thought it would be so I went back to how I even got there which was my 12th grade English teacher. And thus I started my teaching journey!
5 - Honestly, I really enjoy teaching the basics on reading and writing. How to chunk a text, MLA Formatting, Persuasive Techniques, literary devices etc. Introducing those key parts of ELA has been enjoyable because I then get to see the kids grow right before my eyes and use it in their own writing and speaking!
6 - I'm in Queens but I'm on the boarder of Queens and LI. I'm actually teaching in the same Queens district that I grew up in.
7 - Very similar to Katie, it's all about the growth. I myself have a hard time wanting to read and write but when I push myself to do so, I surpass my expectations and surprise myself. The same goes for my students! (I also love the office so this was meaningful to me as well).

I am bilingual.
5. I like anything that pertains to personal story writing. Even as a student, I would enjoy whenever I was assigned to do journal writing.
6. I am from Long Island (Suffolk County).
7. I think it's super important to listen to someone to understand. We should always listen not to argue, not to make assumptions, but to understand.

How the real world impacts a culture's literary art and how that literary art impacts the real world.

6) Born in Queens, grew up in Nassau County, moved back to Queens in '16.

7) I chose this gif because it is a tongue in cheek representation of what I mean when I talk about literacy as a form of cultural study. Camus himself wrote The Plague as an existential work of narrative philosophy for a post-World War II and post-Holocaust Europe. Many decades later, the overt message of "People can become selfish during a existential threats" is very much still relevant today. Also "we live in a society" is a meme I find funny, so there's that too.

1. Caleb
2. Kay-lib
3. He/Him/His
4. Another TV/Media transfer here. Went to undergrad for TV and minored in English, but ever since I taught private music lessons I wondered what teaching a classroom would be like, so I decided to give it a shot, and I'm very glad I did thus far.
5. I love poetry and short stories, and recently read some science fiction, which I've been missing. I find that English has always held my attention over other subjects because of the conversations and ideas that come from reading, writing and classroom discussions. I want to learn how to help students succeed and become interested in English, and possibly enjoy it. I'm interested in using other mediums other than texts to help kids understand literacy as well (music, movies, video games).
6. Born and raised on Long Island. Nassau County.
7. Music has been very important to me, and through music I discovered I enjoy teaching. I think learning English should be similar to learning an instrument, in that it can be difficult at times, but ultimately should be fun and something to be looked forward to learning instead of dreading.

I work both onstage as an actor and behind the scenes running the lights and stage managing.

5. Reading has been a major part of my life since I was a kid, and always helped me to understand the world I didn't have the ability to fully explore. Now, as an educator, I have the opportunity to help them work through their thoughts and opinions to find a better understanding of themselves and the world. Prompts that push for their personal opinion and understanding are my favorite to teach, mostly because I love to write them too.

6. I always refer to myself as being from Queens, born and raised.

7. This gif embodies the pure excitement that comes with finding a great story. When students find joy in their studies, they're even more willing to grow as readers and writers.

I also love to learn about my students by giving them creative writing assignments and projects.

6)Born and raised in Queens, New York.
7) I chose this gif because I love a good Schitts Creek reference and because I always tell my students that everything we say needs to come from a place of understanding. "I understand" is a misused phrase and people throw it around when they actually don't understand the situation. This matters to me in reading, writing, speaking and listening because when someone is speaking we need to respectful and actually listen. I want to instill this habit in my students because I know it will make them better people in the long run.

1. Amanda (legal name) or Do (last name)
2. See previous Amanda for the pronunciation, Do is pronounced "Doe" like "Doe a deer" not "Do or do not there is no try"
3. she/her
4. I wake up and choose violence every day (Jiujitsu, UFC, forgetting to hand in my per session forms)
5. Honestly everything about literature/literacy/just teaching ELA in general is my jam. Do you know the best feeling? Watch a kid get hyped I'm teaching a book with a character that's like him and he's never seen that before my class. I love diving in to books that'll make me lose track of time to the point the sun is rising as I'm finishing a novel. Tl;dr, I like books, to read, share, and teach.
6. Queens born and raised
7. Oh I picked this cause let's be real. It's always fun when students who may not be the best during class time turn out pretty banging writing. Mostly because when they tell their friends they got a high score on their writing, and then their friends don't believe them, I can confirm that they indeed write it and it was all in their own words. Now to make them all this confident/get their writing skills up.

I grew up on section 8 housing and food stamps, so that I had educators help me progress out of poverty puts me in a position to want to pay it forward and put change in that gives future students an avenue for success. Why literacy and ELA? It always amazes me that a lack of understanding multiple perspectives and different means of expression has disenfranchised so many. The best way to combat that I feel is from the inside.
