This book talked about the racism that a young black kid had to face in public places such as school. His biological brother, who looked nothing like him, was treated better and well respected by the people around them which hurt Donte. 
I think this book is very important to children's literature because it addresses a major issue in today's society which is racism. The book does a great job in showing how Donte felt when people were falsely accusing him which leads the reader to feel empathy for him. The book also talks about bullying also which is another big issue many kids face these days. Another important lesson that the book gives is to speak up when you get the chance to do so. This book is my top favorite. The book talks about a teenage boy Omar that lives in a refugee camp with his little brother who is ill. He takes care of his brother because their parents are lost and at the end he fulfills his wish to move to the United States. 
The book falls under the Personal Growth theme because the challenges Omar faced at the camp caused him to mature faster than those around him. This picture book tells the story of an arrogant fish who was admired by many. Other fishes would often come up to him and ask for one of his shiny scales but the Rainbow fish did not want to share. 
This book fits the theme of Personal Growth because at the beginning the fish was very self centered and thought he was better than everyone else but at the end he learned that sharing with others is better than keeping everything for yourself. She secretly signs up for a Comedy club which is held after school so she can make her biggest dream come true. This picture book tells the story of a young indigenous girl who calls on her people to protect the water from the giant black snake. The giant black snake is supposed to be the Dakota pipelines which are poisoning the environment for years. 
I believe this book talks about activism and the importance of the environment. It educates us on how the Dakota pipelines have been harming the environment for such a long time. The book tells the story of a well groomed china rabbit who truly only cares about himself. Life takes him on a very hard journey where he learns to love and deeply care for others the same way they do for him.
