-The revolutionary war
The colonists formed an army and Washington was the commender of it. Their first war which was the Battle of Bunker Hill, ended in British victory. But the revolutionary army noticed that they know this land well more than British does. Anyway, after the first battle, the Continental Congress voted to adopt the Declaration of Independence. This meant the war would get larger. Just like that, th British sent more troops to the America. However, Washington and his army made many surprise attacks and won the British army. But the British kept made victories too and the war didn't seem to come to an end. However, the French helped the revolutionay army, and finally after the Battle of Yorktown, Great Braitain recognized the independence of the United States in the Treaty of Paris. After that, the 11 states became a one country and the United States was found.

31 May 1961: South Africa becomes republic, in that the rulers are elected by the people. But the new republic was still under the apartheid regime. This was a system of racial oppression that granted civil rights (e.g. right to vote) only to whites, and oppressed non-whites. It existed until 1994, and in many ways the end of apartheid could be considered South Africa's independence, even as republic status was attained three decades prior in 1961.
