How did you feel about your brother David at the beginning of the story?

Catherine: At first, I was frustrated. David’s behaviors were hard for me to understand. I wanted everything to be perfect and safe, so I made rules to control things.

Interviewer: What changed your perspective?

Catherine: I learned that David isn’t someone to fix. He’s my brother, and he needs love and acceptance, not rules. I started to see things from his point of view and respect his way of communicating.

Interviewer: How did this story help you grow?

Catherine: It made me realize that patience and understanding are important. I also understood that everyone has challenges, and sometimes we need to listen more carefully.

Reflection:

I used AI to help organize my ideas and structure my answers, but the feelings and lessons I shared come from my own reflections on Catherine’s experiences. This task helped me think more deeply about the meaning of family and acceptance, which are central themes in Rules.

Title: Alternative Ending and Reflection on Rules by Cynthia Lord

After reading Rules, I imagined a new ending where Catherine no longer relies on strict rules to guide David’s behavior. Instead, she learns to connect with him through shared experiences and emotions. With AI’s help, I created a version where Catherine and David start drawing together to express their feelings. This artistic connection becomes a new way for them to understand each other beyond words and rules.

While AI suggested ideas like creative communication tools and nonverbal expression, the core concept of “harmony over rules” was my own. I believe that while rules can help us understand one another, true connection happens when we prioritize empathy, flexibility, and emotional support. In my ending, the characters grow not by enforcing control, but by accepting differences and building harmony through creativity.

This story taught me that relationships—especially with people who see the world differently—require more than just structure. They need patience, love, and the willingness to meet others halfway. AI helped me brainstorm and organize my thoughts, but the heart of my version came from my belief that mutual understanding and harmony matter more than control or correction.

In the end, Rules inspired me to see the value of emotional intelligence and the power of kindness. AI made my ideas clearer, but the message—about harmony over rules—came from me.

Title : What I Learned from ‘Rules’

Reading Rules by Cynthia Lord was a meaningful and eye-opening experience. I was especially touched by Catherine's effort to improve David's behavior.

What I learned most from this book is the importance of understanding and accepting people who are different from us. Catherine struggles with embarrassment and frustration, but she matures by learning to value kindness and honesty over appearances. The story reminded me that everyone deserves to be heard and treated with respect.

Overall, Rules taught me about friendship, empathy, and self-acceptance. It’s a touching book that shows how small actions—like listening or making word cards—can make a big difference in someone’s life.

Reflection

I used AI to frame overall text and write right story of the book. But I wrote what I learned from the book myself.

Alternate Ending: Catherine’s New Rule

When Jason invited me to the dance, I felt my heart beating so fast. I hesitated and finally said, "I'm sorry, Jason. I can't go."

That night, I couldn't sleep. Why did I say no? Because of fear? Embarrassment? Because of rules?

Next morning, I saw David in the living room, carefully arranging his cars. "No cars in the fish tank," he whispered softly. That was his way of showing love—through rules he remembered.

Suddenly, I realized something important. I had made rules for David, but maybe it was me who needed a new rule—"Face your fears."

I quickly took my sketchbook and drew a new card. It showed two people, smiling together, dancing freely. At the top, I wrote clearly: "Together."

Later, I found Jason outside the therapy clinic. My voice shook slightly as I said, "Jason, I made a mistake. Would you still like to go to the dance?"

His smile was brighter than I'd ever seen. "Of course," his card said.

That evening, stepping into the dance hall with Jason beside me, I felt strong and happy. For the first time, I didn’t worry about rules. Instead, I enjoyed the music, the lights, and friendship.

[Reflection]

I initially used AI for ideas, but this ending came from my own thinking. I learned from Catherine’s story that courage means facing your own fears and doubts. Rules can guide us, but they shouldn't control us. This new ending helped me understand the importance of overcoming hesitation to build stronger relationships.

What was your first impression of Catherine? Jason: At first, I wasn’t sure if she really wanted to be my friend or just felt sorry for me. But when she started making new word cards for me, I realized she was trying to help me speak in my own way. Interviewer: How did those cards change your life? Jason: They gave me more power. I could say things I couldn’t before. For example, I could tell people how I felt, what I liked, or what I wanted. That meant a lot to me. It made me feel like I mattered. Interviewer: What did you learn from Catherine? Jason: I learned that real friends listen. Catherine didn’t just talk—she paid attention. She also learned from me. We both grew because we saw the world through each other’s eyes.

Reflection: I used AI to help me organize my ideas and check my grammar, but the thoughts came from imagining what Jason might feel. Living with a younger brother like David, who has autism, seemed exhausting and frustrating. Catherine created a list of rules for him, hoping he would act more “normally.” At first, I understood why she felt embarrassed. She just wanted a simple, ordinary life without so many complications.

Reading Rules made me reflect on how I treat people who are different from me. I thought of my cousin who has autism, and I realized that I, too, had tried to change him instead of accepting him for who he is. This book reminded me that everyone deserves respect, kindness, and understanding.

While writing this reflection, I used AI to help me organize my thoughts and polish my sentence structure. AI served as a tool, but the core message and insights were deeply personal. I believe that recognizing the difference between borrowed support and my own original thinking was an important part of this learning process—and that in itself became one of the most meaningful lessons I gained from this task.

Title: Interview with Jason – Finding My Voice

Interviewer: Jason, thank you for joining us. How did you feel when you first met Catherine?
Jason: At first, I was curious but cautious. Many people see only what I can’t do. But Catherine treated me like a person, not a problem. She looked me in the eyes and asked me real questions. When she made new cards for me, I felt understood for the first time.

Interviewer: What did Catherine’s friendship mean to you?
Jason: It meant freedom. With her cards, I could say words like "joke," "run," or "angry." I could finally express my feelings. Her friendship helped me show who I am, not just what I need.

Interviewer: What did you learn through your friendship with Catherine?
Jason: I learned that being different doesn’t mean being alone. Real friends try to understand each other, even when it's hard. Catherine showed me that communication is more than speaking — it’s about listening, patience, and respect.

Reflection:

I used AI to help develop the structure, but the voice and thoughts reflect how I imagined Jason’s feelings based on the book. Writing this helped me think more about how communication isn’t just about words — it’s about connection and effort. Jason taught me that everyone deserves a chance to speak, in their own way.

Title : Interview with Jason

Interviewer : Jason, thank you for talking with me. How did you feel when you first noticed Catherine drawing you?

Jason : At first, I was surprised and a little confused. I wondered why she was drawing me was she making fun of me? But then Catherine came over and talked to me, explaining what she was doing. After that, I understood her better and the misunderstanding was cleared up

Interviewer : When you asked Catherine to go to the dance party with you, and she hesitated, what thoughts or feelings did you have?

Jason : At first, I was confused and a little disappointed because I really wanted her to say yes. I thought of her as a true friend, so when she hesitated, I began to doubt if she really wanted to be with me. Honestly, I felt angry—like maybe she didn’t want to go with a boy who has a disability. That made me feel sad and unsure about our friendship

Interviewer : How did you feel when Catherine pushed your wheelchair and ran down the hallway?

Jason : hat moment was amazing. I felt like I was actually running and free, even though I was in my wheelchair. It was one of the happiest times I’ve had, and it showed me that I could experience freedom in my own way.

Reflection : The first sentence, like "It was confusing and a bit disappointing," was created using the book or AI, but the rest of the thoughts were my own ideas that I wrote down.

Q: Catherine, how has your idea of “rules” changed after everything that happened?
A: At the beginning, I thought rules were the only way to make life normal—especially with David. But over time, I realized that trying to control everything with rules actually made me feel trapped. Now, I understand that not everything needs to follow a rule to be right or good. Sometimes, we just need to listen and accept people as they are.

Q: What did your friendship with Jason teach you?
A: Jason helped me see that communication is more than just talking. He made me realize how important it is to see the person behind the words—or the cards, in his case. I was afraid of what others would think, but being his friend helped me become more confident and kind.

Q: How do you feel about your brother David now?
A: I used to get frustrated or even embarrassed by David. But now I see that he’s just being himself. He doesn’t care about what people think, and in some ways, that’s something I admire. I love him not because he follows the rules—but because he’s real.

Q: If someone feels like they have to hide parts of themselves to fit in, what would you say?
A: I’d say: You don’t have to be perfect or pretend to be someone else. Being honest might feel scary, but it’s the only way to find real friends and peace with yourself. You are enough, just as you are.

I used AI to organize my ideas, but the emotions and thoughts are based on how I personally interpreted Jason’s experience in the story. This writing process helped me realize that communication goes beyond just language — it’s really about understanding and making an effort to connect. Through Jason, I learned that everyone has the right to express themselves, even if their way of speaking is different.
