is a process where the scientists performing the research influence the results, in order to portray a certain outcome. (explorable, 2017) for example, an experimenter could influence the results consciously or unconsciously via the way they word a question or by certain verbs they use just like in the Loftus and palmer study thus impacting on the results (1974)
this could be reduced via double blind controls for example, not knowing the type of variable that they are giving to the participant.

Standardized procedures are they instructions the participants will recieve before taking part in the experiment for example:
same diet
same amount of caffeine
similar ages
similar IQ
time of day - same
relativley same sleep pattern

The standardised procedures help make the experiment be more reliable because the factors that could contribute to the experiment and vary results are made similar between the participants to avoid extraneous variables affecting results.
