The students volunteered to be in the study, allowing there to be no cost of using the subjects. However, at the conclusion of the testing each student received a $5 gift card to Starbucks.

The average scores of those who consumed caffeine trumped that of those who did not by 7.1% which is a significant difference as it is almost a whole letter grade.
