and I think purposes and reasons are kind of embedded into one another.
Sometimes the reason/purpose🤔 could be to show the teacher where to look into and improve in their practice, is it the legs that need to be shorter, or is it the trunk that needs to be longer or the tusks?
However other times, we may be more interested in the whole picture, the elephant as a whole. So we could put the puzzle of the different parts of the lesson together and think, with the trainee teacher, how the lesson was shaped and what could have been done differently to make it even a more attractive elephant🐘. Of course, the trainer should never want to change the whole elephant into a, say, giraffe🦒. Other than the times when the elephant is actually not an elephant at all😂😂.

So the first step is to write down clear aims for every single observation and let the teacher know what it is that you are observing for. I would even suggest that the observer brings some reasons why they chose this/these aim(s), either to the manager of the Language Teaching Organization (LTO) or maybe to the teachers themselves.
Then, the trainer/observer needs to choose some tasks to do before/during the observation(these tasks could be chosen from Jeremy Harmer's Learning Teaching or Classroom Observation Tasks by Wajnryb) as well as some points to direct them towards the aims they have chosen.
and to stick to those points in the feedback session as well.
Another useful practice for the observer is to record and reflect upon their own feedback sessions. to have more info, watch this.

Observer watches for evidence, appreciation, assessment of the actual skills in the practice of the teacher and also make some guidance and help in making some improvement or making some progress in teaching style.

observer would be known as the facilitator, and also supportive, develop the lesson, guiding, scaffolding and on target (concentrate and warn on the gaps during the class)

Observations aren't and should never be by itself; a fruitful observation session must always be followed up with a discussion (feedback).. even if it has to be done indirectly. (It's not always possible for the observer to have a pre or post face to face conversation with the teacher).

Assessment primary focuses on establishment of clear aims that the observer will evaluate in terms of whether the lesson addresses those particular aims, in addition to how well those aims are incorporated into the lesson.

In terms of research, there is a great deal of reflection, not only in terms of how well a certain kind of instruction is received by learners, but also how it reflects on the organization’s values.

The teacher should always be notified well in advance when an observer will be present.
While observation may be daunting, it is not inherently negative.
