Food Allergies are an immune response to a food that has been eaten. In an attempt to protect the body, the immune system produces antibodies to that particular food. These antibodies trigger allergy cells in the body to release chemicals into the bloodstream. Once the body has made antibodies against a particular food or foods, the body recognises the foods when they are consumed, resulting in an allergic reaction.

Food allergies can not be cured, instead it is best to avoid the certain food/foods that cause an allergic reaction. Although medication can be used to treat both minor and severe symptoms.
For minor symptoms the best treatment is to take antihistamines which will relieve symptoms such as a runny nose or hives.
For more severe allergic reactions other treatments can be used. In the case of an asthma attack that is triggered by an allergic reaction epinephrine is given and medical assistance should be alerted. As well as anaphylaxis which requires epinephrine.
