Ideological factors: the colonists were familiar with Enlightenment thinking about liberty and equality.

Political factors: he British Parliament made decisions about taxes and other issues related to the colonies.

Economic and social factors: by this time there was a wealthy colonial bourgeoisie who wanted the freedom to trade without the interference of Great Britain.

 The Stamp Act (March 1765)To recoup some of the massive debt left over from the war with France  which for the first time taxed a wide range of transactions in the colonies.

The Townshend Acts (June-July 1767)Parliament again tried to assert its authority by passing legislation to tax goods that the Americans imported from Great Britain.

The Boston Massacre (March 1770)When the Americans began taunting the British and throwing things at them, the soldiers apparently lost their cool and began shooting into the crowd.

The Boston Tea Party (December 1773)The British eventually withdrew their forces from Boston and repealed much of the onerous Townshend legislation.

The Coercive Acts (March-June 1774)In response to the Boston Tea Party, the British government decided that it had to tame the rebellious colonists in Massachussets.

They created one amy that was led my George Whasington. 

The war developed in two states: 

In the first stage, Great Britain had some military successes but the colonists took actions that were politically significant.

And in the second the colonists military victory at the Battle of Saratoga led of France and Spain to offer them support.

As a result, the two sides were more closely matched in military terms. This led to a ceasefire (stop the fire). 

The American revolution had important consequences. The United States became an symbol for the struggle for liberty and equality in other countries.

The greatest influence over the thoughts, passions, and actions of the era’s leading figures was the Enlightenment. The development of the printing press and the influx of books and access to libraries created the new focus of obtaining knowledge for personal use.

African-Americans were not invisible during the Revolution. African-Americans have been to our history from the very beginning.Within these battles, and many other smaller ones, we find the names of real people who made a difference.

Ten Crucial Days (December 24, 1776 - January 3, 1777).
If there is one stretch of days in American history in need of a Hollywood blockbuster, it would most certainly be the ‘ten crucial days’ at the end of 1776. Most of the Continental army was set to return home in a few days when their enlistments expired at the end of the year.

Strategy and Its Cause and Effects.
The Revolution saw competing ideologies of government-rule while also highlighting the evolving nature of military planning and strategy during the 18th century.
