Especially through virtual learning, one of the biggest issues I am running into is a complete lack of effort. Some scholars are struggling to even complete an assignment completely, if at all! 

I am guilty of sometimes attributing a scholar's lack of effort or success to their lack of "want-to", and I forgot about other circumstances that drive their learning mindset. 

Questions: 
I am not familiar with the term "toxic positivity" and wonder how it plays in our school?

Growth mindset, for all its virtues, overemphasizes the role of individuals and "grit and determination" which can lead to educators and policy-makers ignoring systemic conditions. Students who face systemic racism or live in poverty aren't going to overcome those conditions by mindset alone.

It makes the job inside the classroom harder, but understanding the actually conditions we're working in with improve our understanding of possible solutions. Meeting students where they are continues to be paramount, but fostering a stronger sense of community has greater value than what it is typically given when we focus on mindset.
