Social responsibility suggests that an individual has a responsibility to the community or society in terms of choices about behaviors.

Moral responsibility implies a knowledge and understanding of 'right' and 'wrong' and the ability and willingness to behave morally.

When everybody finds out that Jack is lying about his identity, Algernon keeps quiet to other people, but then he goes and pretends to be Jack's other identity.

Gwendolyn and Cecily did not like each other because they were under the influence that they were engaged to the same man, instead of keeping quiet, they said something to each other and found out both of their "husbands" were different men. (that claimed to be the same man)

According to Victorian morals, Lady Bracknell was the most moral character in the play. One of the first examples where she shows the most morality is when Algernon is talking about his invalid friend, Mr. Bunbury, and she shows no sympathy towards the man whatsoever. She wishes he would speed up the process of his death. Throughout the rest of the play, she shows her approval of those who are publically seen in the community and strongly approves of Algernon marrying Cecily after finding out about her fortune.

Cecily proved to be the least moral in the play. When we are first introduced to Cecily, she is telling Miss Prism how she doesn’t care for her German lesson and would rather being doing garden work. Not only does this go against the moral that women should focus on self-improvement, but it also shows that Cecily is more of a romantic character. She does not care for social norms and is perfectly okay with going off and doing her own thing. She also had no concern over Algernon’s wealth, or lack thereof, and was more interested in his hair than his money, which is what the Victorian era was mainly focused around.
