  • According to the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada, The officials there said "allowing students to choose their clothing is an empowering message from the schools that a student is a maturing person who is entitled to the most basic self-determination."

  • Tom Houlihan, a former Superintendent of a school in Oxford, NC, stated that school uniforms "are a distraction from focusing on systematic and fundamental transformation to improve our schools."
  • Girls in schools are almost always purposely targeted most of the time and can be taken out of class for sometimes for up to 2 and 1/2 hours. 3 out of every 5 girls get reported for what they are wearing by a male student because it's distracting.

  • As adults choosing an outfit to wear everyday helps us develop our own appearance through what we choose. Adolescents see clothing choices as a means of identification, and seeking an identity is one of the maybe most critical stages of adolescence, according to the developmental psychologist Erik Erikson. 
  •  Denying students the ability to express themselves whether they choose to be preppy, hip-hop, punk, or jock, could affect the students’ transition from childhood into adulthood. Controlling the socialization process could harm the student as an adult, as they are not prepared for the real world, where they will indeed b judged by their appearances.
