Learning best practices for the benefit of service and access.
The librarian may not be able to have the ultimate outcome for every user. That being said, the time and attention, along with the access provided should be equitable to all. Personal bias and lack of attention should be set aside in order to help all who enter the library. Quality over quantity should be the key when providing service.

The library should be accessible to all with all materials accesible. Librarians may not be able to serve each user equally, but must strive to do so fairly. We must be aware of the needs of people with disabilities, cultural differences, or unaware of the setting. Charging fees whenever possible because fees create a barrier to access.

In 1939, along with the Professional Code of Ethics, the ALA created "Library Bill of Rights". These rights were introduced as a way to protect the patrons for access.

Copyright issues are an ongoing issues in the United States. People are constantly trying to take credit for other peoples work until the copyright as been established. The librarians role is to play the middle person between creator and copyright holder. That may be the same person or a team of people. The librarian must just provide access to information and nothing more. We must be familiar with Public Domain, First Sale Doctrine, and Fair Use.

This is very difficult.
Censorship:
Censorship can effect policy and selection of material. We must distinguish between obscene and offensive material. Librarians must consider their clientele such as children when choosing to censor. Neutrality is choosing to allow others to censor for you.
