Playing cards have been around for hundreds of years and are used to play a variety of games.
In the US we use a deck of 52 cards containing four suits; hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. Each suit has three face cards - the Jack, Queen, and King.
The detailed illustrations on traditional face cards date back to Medieval European designs. Each design has rotational symmetry, meaning that the illustration is rotated 180° around a horizontal or diagonal line of symmetry. Note the repetition of colors and patterns on the clothing of the face cards.
