In the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J Palacio August is the main character. Two traits that describe August are unique and benevolent. Here is an example from the novel why August is unique''I know that I am not an ordinary ten year old kid... My name is August by the way. I won't describe what i look like. Whatever your thinking it's probably worse.''(Palacio 3) Here is an example from the novel why August is benevolent'' Then you should do it Summer. Who cares what anyone else thinks. You know that's what I like about you Auggie. I feel like I can tell you anything.''(Palacio 119). An additional character in the realistic fiction novel is Summer. Two character traits that describe Summer are open-minded and humane. Here is an example from the novel why Summer is humane''I sat with August the first day because I felt sorry for him. Here he was on the first day being the only new kid. Sitting all alone with everyone staring at him and whispering about him. Being the new kid is hard, but imagine being the new kid with Auggie's face.''(Palacio 119). Here is another example why Summer is open-minded''Who knew my sitting with August Pullman would be such a big deal? People acted like it was the strangest thing in the world.''(Palacio 119). Those are two traits that describe August and two other traits that describe Summer.

In the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J Palacio the story is written in first person. This help's me understand the story because you get to see how the character's feeling. Just like the story ''The Three Little Pigs'' you learn the pigs side of what happened and the wolf's side of what happened. The Big Bad Wolf didn't seem so bad to me after I read his side of the story compared to the pigs side. Learning how another character actually feels can totally change your perspective of that character. Sometimes when the story isn't in first person the reader can't really tell how some of the characters are feeling. This is how Wonder being written in first person helps me understand the story better.

There are many themes in the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J Palacio, but my favorite theme is no matter how someone looks we are all human inside. In the novel Wonder August is judged for what his face looked like and not by his awesome personality. August is such an amazing ten year old kid. This theme means that you should treat everybody the same despite what the person looks like. In Wonder August has a deformed face . ''Who knew that my sitting with August Pullman would be such a big deal? People acted like it was the strangest thing in the world.''(Palacio 119) Summer didn't understand why everyone acted like sitting with August was the weirdest thing. Summer didn't judge Auggie the way everyone else . She was able to see past his facial deformity. That is my favorite theme from the realistic fiction novel Wonder.

Plot Line

In the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R.J Palacio there are many parts of a plot line. The parts of a plot line are the Exposition, the Rising Action, the Climax, the Falling Action, and the Resolution. The main characters in Wonder are August, Via, Mom, Dad, Jack, Julian and Summer. The setting is at Auggies house and at Beecher Prep Middle School. The initial conflict in Wonder is that August has a deformed face. There was a lot of things that happened before the fifth grade field trip that could have affected the story if it hadn't happened. Some of those events were Jack punched Julian, August goes on a tour of Beecher Prep, Jack says that he would kill himself if he looked like Auggie, Julian got suspended and couldn't go on the field trip. The biggest turning point in the story for August was when Henry, Miles, and Amos stood up to Eddie and his friends when they were being mean and picking on Jack and August. After the little accident at the nature retreat, August was then known for being a brave fifth grader who stood up to a bunch of seventh graders. Towards the end of the novel August wins the Henry Ward Beecher Award. After that there was a monumental shift. August then gained a lot more friends then he used to have, and became more popular while Julian became less popular. This is the plot line of the realistic fiction novel Wonder.

I would give Wonder 5 out of five stars. I really enjoyed reading the book during class and at home. It was a realistic fiction novel that was creative and inspiring to me. It was about how you should always be yourself and that you don't have to change for anyone. That's exactly what August does, all of the readers know that it is very hard for August because of his facial deformity. That is why I would give Wonder five out of five stars.
