Plessy v. Ferguson was a major supreme court case in the year 1896. Homer Plessy had bought his first class ticket on a train and made his way to the “white’s only” part of the train where the whites did not want him to be. Plessy was arrested and charged for violating the Separate car act. Plessy’s lawyer said that the state of Louisiana had violated Plessy’s rights, the judged ruled the state could do what they wanted to within state boundaries and Plessy was convicted and had to pay a $25 fine. Plessy’s case was moved to state level and the judge upheld the ruling. Judge John Harlan of the Supreme Court overruled the decision.

This is John Spargo, The movement he led was the child labor union. John was born on january 31 1876 and died in the year of 1966, He lived in the united kingdom all his life. John wrote a book called “ The Bitter City Of The Children” in the year of 1906, In this book he exposed terrible child labor conditions. During this time period big business owner had little kids working in factors for 12 or more hours a day and with no break and only got paid 5 cents, while in these factories kids will get their hands, feet, and other body parts chopped off and the book explained all of what was going on in the factory. The book led so states restricting child labor, and this was good because i feel like a child should not have to be involved with that type of work and they were working them like slaves so they deserved more money and better working condition and that's what the book “ The Better City of the Children told the people.

This video is about muckrakers, Muckrakers were people who wrote about how big business leaders would use people and they also told what went on behind closed doors. The first muckraker i am going to talk about is Ida Tarbell and she wrote about J.D. Rockefeller and how he used people to buy his oil and she told what was wrong with it. Then there was Lincoln stueffens and he wrote about city corruption and in his book he exposed dishonest and illegal things people were doing all the bad living conditions and everything that was happening in cites. As you look at this video you will see other muckrakers and what they wrote about and how things was back then and how people lived.
