The Earth cooled down, which created new weather patterns. The cooling of the Earth was caused by unusual solar activity and volcanic eruptions. The focus of agriculture decreased, as it made plants harder to grow. Many settlements moved further south, in pursuit of better weather.

Powerful states began to use peasant labor for political and economic tasks. The peasants were encouraged to move to Siberia to live a better life, as Siberia was very profitable in the fur trade. In the Mughal empire, peasants worked cotton fields and textile operations to keep up with the demands of joint-stock companies. Silk became the main component of the Chinese economy, with peasants being forced to grow mulberry plants and help with silk production to meet demands for export.

Africa supplied slaves to the Indian Ocean and Mediterranean regions. The trade of slaves over the Atlantic slave trade grew to the increasing number of plantations and the increasing need for labor. This was due to native labor dying out, meaning there was a need for another source of labor.
